PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gage Bedard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mikko Tuho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tuho is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Marilyn Manson - Fight Song. On his way into the cage it seems that Gage Bedard has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Gage Bedard seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gage Bedard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikko Tuho!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shirou Masuda and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bedard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bedard shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tuho but Tuho pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Tuho counters with a big head kick but Bedard shrugs it off.
Bedard shoots in looking for a takedown. Tuho tries to sprawl out of it but Bedard keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tuho manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gage Bedard. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Tuho closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Tuho breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Tuho bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bedard is trying to escape the position but Tuho is controlling the position.
Tuho's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bedard is trying to get back to half guard.
Tuho tries to move to mount but Bedard blocks the move with his legs.
You can see the frustration on Bedard's face as Tuho controls the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
I looks like Tuho might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Bedard is not content to let Tuho control the position.

Despite being in the dominant position, Mikko Tuho just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

and Tuho counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Bedard on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bedard tries to get out of the position.
Bedard is breathing heavily.
Tuho wants to pass to mount but Bedard is defending the position.

Tuho is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Bedard is refusing to be controlled, as Tuho sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bedard scores with a few weak punches.
Bedard wants to improve his position but Tuho is controlling well.
Tuho wants to control but Bedard is keeping him busy.

Tuho is looking to take a break and control but Bedard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Bedard has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bedard wants to control from the top but Tuho keeps moving.

Let's hope that Tuho has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Bedard won't allow Tuho to sweep him here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tuho is on top in guard.

Tuho passes into half guard.
Bedard gets back to full guard.
Bedard can't keep his opponent in guard - Tuho advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Tuho is taking a breather. Bedard says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tuho wants to take a breather but Bedard is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mikko Tuho dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tuho tries a low kick but Bedard avoids it.
Tuho looks to land a combination but Bedard avoids it well.

Tuho gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Tuho is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bedard postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Mikko Tuho has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bedard keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Tuho's head.

Bedard drops back, looking for a kneebar! Tuho looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Tuho looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Tuho!

Tuho is trying to work for a kimura but Bedard is defending well.
Bedard is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tuho's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tuho's back!

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Tuho. Bedard shrugs it off though.

Bedard closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Tuho to the mat! Tuho manages to get full guard.

Tuho has momentary wrist control but Bedard slips an elbow through the middle.

Tuho is trying to control the position but Bedard postures up.
Bedard chips away with some ground and pound.

Tuho pulls Bedard in to control the position.
Tuho is still in real trouble! Can Bedard finish him?

Tuho looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tuho seems to have recovered his senses.
Tuho bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bedard's guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gage Bedard will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Tuho is pulling down on Bedard's head. It's preventing any offense from Bedard, at least for the moment.

Tuho has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Bedard should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Tuho has tightened it up now! Bedard should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
