Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jefferson Farfan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fergus McDugan! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Eliza Hachem.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDugan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Farfan closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Farfan lands in his opponent's guard. McDugan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Farfan wants to control from the top but McDugan keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Farfan content to stall in guard here. Farfan throws a strike but McDugan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's one minute gone in the round. Farfan seems keen to control McDugan's posture. McDugan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Farfan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McDugan has managed to get both his arms back between Farfan's legs - danger averted. McDugan trying to control the position from guard on top but Farfan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Farfan wants to stand but McDugan is controlling the position. McDugan missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Farfan keeping full guard, as McDugan tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. McDugan is pushing down on Farfan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Farfan is fighting to maintain full guard but McDugan has managed to sneak the leg through. McDugan seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. McDugan trying to control the action but Farfan is working from the bottom. Farfan is looking to escape. McDugan wants to control but Farfan is keeping him busy. Farfan wants to improve his position but McDugan is controlling well.
Farfan is not content to let McDugan control the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Fergus McDugan has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Farfan shoots in for a takedown but McDugan shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Farfan drives through with a takedown into guard. Farfan wants to stand but McDugan is controlling his posture from full guard. McDugan kicks Farfan off and gets to his feet. McDugan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
McDugan throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Farfan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
McDugan throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Farfan. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! McDugan leaves Farfan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Farfan wants to clinch up but McDugan keeps it at a distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nice takedown defense from McDugan. No joy for Farfan on that attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jefferson Farfan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Farfan is breathing heavily. McDugan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Farfan counters with a one-two to the body. McDugan shoots for a double leg takedown but Farfan sprawls well. He's pushed McDugan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Some bone on bone action there as McDugan checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Farfan looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. McDugan lands a big head kick that sends Farfan tumbling to the mat! McDugan takes a step backwards and waves Farfan back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Jefferson Farfan has been cut. McDugan stuffs the takedown. McDugan throws a nice head kick!
Farfan is rocked! Farfan is trying hard to land a takedown here. McDugan sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. McDugan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Farfan counters with a head kick. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. McDugan tries to clinch but Farfan moves out of range. McDugan with a lazy takedown attempt and Farfan counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Farfan is working for a kimura but McDugan is defending it quite comfortably.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jefferson Farfan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fergus McDugan. Still in half guard, Farfan seems content to control. Farfan missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Farfan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. McDugan is breathing heavily.

McDugan wriggles free and stands up. McDugan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Farfan counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in McDugan's guard now. Farfan trying to control but McDugan is working from the bottom. McDugan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Farfan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. McDugan is keeping the position for now. Jefferson Farfan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Farfan stays in close to McDugan's body and controls the position. Farfan scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Farfan stays in close to McDugan's body and controls the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Farfan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. McDugan parries the strikes from Farfan easily there. Farfan is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable McDugan to escape.
Farfan taking a break here but McDugan is having none of it and regains half guard. Farfan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed McDugan's head. McDugan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Farfan accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

McDugan is working an open guard so Farfan takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Farfan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with McDugan but McDugan pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three minutes gone in the round. Farfan is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. McDugan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Farfan trying to control but McDugan is working from the bottom. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Farfan throwing strikes from guard but McDugan blocks nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
We're going to have a standup here because Jefferson Farfan wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Farfan tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Jefferson Farfan is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. McDugan doesn't succeed with the takedown and Farfan counters with a two punch combo. Farfan connects with a single shot there. A low kick from Farfan misses and McDugan counters with a shoot takedown. Farfan fights it but they end up in guard. McDugan slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. McDugan trying to control the action but Farfan is working from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jefferson Farfan. I think Farfan has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
