PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Raphael Ottoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zgwina Toure (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Zgwina Toure was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Raphael Ottoni!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zgwina Toure!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Toure stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Toure wants it to stay on the feet.
Ottoni looks for a takedown but Toure sprawls well.

Ottoni has taken the fight to the clinch.

Ottoni breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Ottoni gets control of Toure's arms and successfully pulls guard. Ottoni will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Toure is fighting to break Ottoni's control of his arms but Ottoni is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Toure is fighting to break Ottoni's control of his arms but Ottoni is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Toure must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Raphael Ottoni.
Toure throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Ottoni stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ottoni wants it to stay on the feet.

Ottoni jabs Toure to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Ottoni tries to clinch but Toure is having none of it.

Ottoni bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Toure's guard.
Ottoni slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Toure is working an open guard so Ottoni takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Ottoni fails to land the takedown.
Toure tries to close the distance and clinch but Ottoni swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ottoni misses with a takedown attempt - Toure sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Ottoni has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Toure is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Toure is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ottoni is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ottoni has escaped and now he's on top!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Toure is defending against the submission attempts here by Ottoni.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Ottoni looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Ottoni throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Toure was covering up waiting for the punch and Ottoni finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ottoni gets to his feet - Toure follows without any prompting.
Ottoni fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ottoni fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Ottoni dives in and grabs Toure's left leg, looking for a takedown. Toure pushes down on Ottoni's head and hops out.

Ottoni shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Toure counters with a takedown into side control.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Raphael Ottoni. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ottoni gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Ottoni shoots in looking for a takedown but Toure manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ottoni's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Toure goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ottoni prevents it.

Ottoni moves into full mount! Toure won't be happy about that!
Raphael Ottoni overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Ottoni throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Ottoni is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Toure defends it well.

Ottoni decides to return to a standing position.
Toure displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ottoni.

Ottoni shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ottoni showed some decent athleticism there.
Ottoni is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Toure is refusing to be controlled, as Ottoni sits in half guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Ottoni, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
