PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andre Cleaner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johnny B Good (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cleaner comes to the cage accompanied by lets go outside the house. Johnny B Good will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Andre Cleaner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Johnny B Good!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

B Good changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cleaner looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cleaner can't do much from the bottom here.
B Good throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Cleaner works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
B Good wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cleaner keeps working.
Cleaner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
B Good missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Cleaner keeping hold of B Good's head, controlling as best he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
B Good throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
B Good thows a huge punch but Cleaner dodges it nicely.
Cleaner moves into full guard.
Cleaner managing to control the position.
Cleaner avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Cleaner keeping moving, preventing B Good from controlling successfully.
Cleaner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
B Good trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Cleaner manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
B Good tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Cleaner punching from mount but B Good doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Cleaner throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Cleaner sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Cleaner sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
B Good wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
B Good sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Cleaner wants to control but B Good is keeping him busy.
B Good is trying to stand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cleaner keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Cleaner seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down B Good for as long as he can get away with.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Andre Cleaner will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


B Good fails to land the takedown.
B Good changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cleaner tries to avoid it but B Good manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cleaner to the ground. Cleaner escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
B Good shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cleaner but Cleaner pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Andre Cleaner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny B Good.

Cleaner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Cleaner stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. B Good swivels though and keeps the full guard.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Cleaner here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Cleaner advances to half guard.
Cleaner is taking a breather. B Good says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Cleaner landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
B Good is looking to improve his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cleaner looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
B Good is staying active underneath Cleaner, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cleaner lands a nice short elbow.

B Good is looking to improve his position.
B Good really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cleaner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cleaner perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
B Good works his way to full guard. Good work.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if B Good can do anything to dispel that myth.

B Good looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andre Cleaner dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


B Good with a poor takedown

and Cleaner counters with a takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cleaner trying to control the action but B Good is working from the bottom.
B Good manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

B Good looks to land a strike but Cleaner avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

B Good must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Cleaner is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Cleaner has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Andre Cleaner.

Andre Cleaner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cleaner wants to free his trapped foot but B Good is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Johnny B Good has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cleaner is controlling the pace.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
B Good with a lazy takedown attempt

and Cleaner decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in B Good's guard.
Andre Cleaner has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny B Good.

B Good wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Cleaner is now in half guard.
Cleaner perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Andre Cleaner showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cleaner has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
