Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joesy Scott I (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Strupek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Strupek is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Click Clack. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joesy Scott I!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roman Strupek!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Strupek closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Strupek thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Scott I's head.
Scott I knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Strupek on the ground.

Strupek is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Scott I is just riding it out for now. Strupek eventually gives up the hold.

Strupek is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Strupek decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Scott I, up you get!
Strupek tries to clinch but Scott I is having none of it.

and Strupek counters with a single leg into guard. Scott I didn't expect that.
Strupek advances to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scott I is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Strupek scores with a couple of nice shots.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Strupek drops back, looking for a kneebar! Scott I looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Scott I looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Scott I!

Scott I working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Strupek struggling a bit here.
Strupek manages to get back to half guard.
Strupek has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Strupek wants to control but Scott I is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Scott I is looking for a kimura but Strupek is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Scott I to get the leverage.
Strupek keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Scott I is working for a submission of some sort.

Scott I is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Strupek defends it well.
Strupek is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Scott I's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Scott I's back!
Scott I looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Scott I is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Strupek gets his way!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Strupek misses with a takedown

and Scott I counters with a single leg into guard. Strupek didn't expect that.

Scott I drops back, looking for a kneebar! Strupek looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Strupek looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Strupek!

Strupek goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Scott I has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Strupek but great work by Scott I.
Strupek manages to work his way to half guard, despite Scott I's best efforts.
Strupek wants to control but Scott I is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Scott I seems to be working for a kimura but Strupek defends the submission attempt.

Scott I drops back looking for a leg! Strupek is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Strupek manages to kick Scott I off! Scott I jumps back into Strupek's guard.

Scott I has gone for a leg lock! Strupek slips out almost immediately though and dives into Scott I's guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Strupek drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Scott I manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Strupek has Scott I in his guard.

Scott I drops back looking for a leg! Strupek is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Strupek manages to kick Scott I off! Scott I jumps back into Strupek's guard.
Scott I won't allow Strupek to sweep him here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joesy Scott I dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Strupek changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Scott I looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Scott I takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Strupek is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Scott I has escaped the position, nice work there.
Strupek in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Strupek creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Scott I sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Strupek thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Scott I can't do much from the bottom here.

Strupek tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Strupek has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Strupek accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Strupek postures up and lands a big shot to Scott I's brow.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Strupek thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Roman Strupek comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Strupek has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
