Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Asheesh Patel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Young Joon Lee! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patel blocks a low kick nicely. Lee keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Patel misses with a body shot.
Lee ducks under a wild hook from Patel. Patel throws a hook to the side of Lee's head but Lee sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Patel fails to land with a series of punches.
A big right from Patel misses. Asheesh Patel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Patel bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Patel throwing shots but missing, from side control. Patel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Patel throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Patel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lee keeps working. Patel postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Lee takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patel working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Lee really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Patel. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The strikes coming from Patel are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Patel creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Lee sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. Patel scoring with punches from side control. Lee defending against the ground and pound. Patel swings around for an armbar but Lee sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Patel's guard. Patel looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Patel throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lee being controlled here momentarily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patel is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lee is aware though and is defending well. Patel is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Patel wants to sweep but no luck. Patel is adopting a defensive guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patel controls Lee momentarily but Lee frees himself. Lee stopping the sweep attempt from Patel.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Asheesh Patel wasn't doing enough on the ground. Patel misses with a two punch combination.
Lee drops his hands momentarily and Patel takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
It looks like Young Joon Lee has been cut. Patel scores with a takedown into Lee's guard. Patel lands a couple of digs.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Patel accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Lee keeping moving, preventing Patel from controlling successfully. Asheesh Patel dominated that round. The cut man is working on Young Joon Lee's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Lee tries to clinch there but Patel circles away.
Lee attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Lee misses with a body kick. Lee tries to score with a low kick but Patel moves his leg out of the way. Patel checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Lee displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Patel throws out the jab. Patel lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Patel loads up on a big right hand but Lee slips the punch. Lee will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Patel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Patel scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. This has been an exciting period of action! Lee throws a leg kick but Patel sees it coming and moves out of range. Asheesh Patel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Lee is breathing heavily.

Patel throws a chopping leg kick but Lee manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Lee doesn't manage to clinch there - Patel circles away.
Lee uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Patel. Lee looks for the body kick but Patel saw that one coming. Lee fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Patel is out of range. Patel connects with a body shot. Young Joon Lee is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Patel misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Lee.
Patel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Patel shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lee napping and manages to drive through into side control! Lee is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Patel slows the pace down. Lee on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patel cracks Lee with a big right hand but Lee just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
This has been an exciting period of action! Lee takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Patel goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Lee rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Patel's guard! Nice work there by Lee! Patel is adopting a defensive guard. Patel looking to hit a scissor sweep but Lee is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lee gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Patel has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lee can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Patel managing to control the position. Patel wants to sweep here but Lee controlling him for the moment. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lee has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Patel is proving hard to escape from. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patel decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Lee is trying to stand up here but Patel is controlling him well. Patel works his foot free and advances to mount. Lee is bucking up trying to escape but Patel cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Lee takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patel looking to control but Lee is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Patel breaks from Lee's wrist control and lands an elbow. Patel throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Patel is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Lee is forced to tap! Great finish!
