Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Larry Laffer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Illya Tyunina and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Laffer avoids a punch combination nicely.
Fedor Emelianenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Emelianenko shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Laffer is trying to defend but Emelianenko finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Laffer moves into full guard.
Laffer wants to stand up but Emelianenko is controlling him. Laffer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Emelianenko is one step ahead there. Laffer manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Emelianenko manages to get himself to full guard.
Laffer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Laffer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Emelianenko swivels though and keeps the full guard. Laffer sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Emelianenko's guard. Emelianenko wants to get back to full guard. Laffer is looking for a kimura here.
Laffer seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
That's one minute gone in the round. Emelianenko trying to hold on to Laffer's head to control him but Laffer postures up.
Emelianenko actively working from the bottom here. Laffer is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Laffer trying to pass the guard but Emelianenko defending well. Laffer passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Emelianenko!
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Laffer working for a submission but Emelianenko is keeping him at bay. Emelianenko working to try and regain half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Laffer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Emelianenko is looking to escape. Emelianenko tries to reverse the position but Laffer maintains control. Laffer wants to control the pace but Emelianenko is squirming around nicely. Laffer looking for a guillotine from mount but Emelianenko is having none of it. Laffer is working for a guillotine from mount but Emelianenko frees his head quite easily.
Emelianenko tries to lock up and control but Laffer gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Laffer trying to control but Emelianenko is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Laffer has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Emelianenko's face.
Laffer looking to isolate an arm here. Emelianenko doesn't see it coming and as Laffer extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Laffer!
