Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Postev! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cosmos Sobolev! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Postev fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Sobolev looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Postev throws a low kick but Sobolev avoids it. No joy there for Postev, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sobolev slaps away a takedown attempt from Postev, before circling back to the center of the mat. Postev pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sobolev dodges the punch combination from Postev.
Postev gets the takedown into side control. Postev thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Postev controlling from side mount. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Postev tries for a kimura but Sobolev is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Postev content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Postev has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Sobolev is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Postev yanks on the arm and Sobolev is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Postev.
