PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Guadeloupe Canal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackson Oman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Canal kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Revientense Todos. Guadeloupe Canal has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Guadeloupe Canal !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jackson Oman!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Skip Squint and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canal misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Canal fails in his attempt to clinch.
Canal tries to clinch up but Oman circles away and keeps his distance.
Canal ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Oman takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Canal misses with a few strikes there.
Canal tries to clinch but Oman moves out of range.
Canal lands a glancing blow to the side of Oman's head.


It looks like Jackson Oman has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Oman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oman shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Canal manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Oman loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Canal wants to sweep here but Oman controlling him for the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jackson Oman hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

enabling Oman to counter with a crisp jab.

Canal connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oman thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Oman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Oman throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Oman lands a nice short elbow.

Canal is trying to maintain the position but Oman is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Oman closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Guadeloupe Canal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Oman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Canal .
Oman connects with a jab.
Canal is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Canal moves out of range as Oman strikes.

Oman takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

and Oman lands a stunning uppercut that sends Canal to the mat!

Canal is holding on to half guard well.
Oman content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Oman tries to pass the half guard into mount. Canal knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Oman looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Canal with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Oman is nestled in close to Canal , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Canal tries to roll over but Oman keeps him under control.
Oman is pressing down on Canal 's thigh, looking to free his foot. Canal is holding on for now.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jackson Oman wasn't active enough on the ground.
Canal misses with a few strikes there.

Oman fails to land with a series of punches.
Canal is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Oman.
Canal lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Oman circles away quickly and effectively.
Oman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Guadeloupe Canal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oman keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Canal tests Oman's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and Oman counters with a shoot takedown. Canal fights it but they end up in guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jackson Oman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Oman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Canal is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Oman takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Canal connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A looping hook to the body misses from Canal . Oman does a little dance to reset his feet.

Canal on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Jackson Oman is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Canal enables Oman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Canal manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Oman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Canal is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Guadeloupe Canal has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Canal misses with a series of wild punches.
Canal dips to his left and cracks Oman with an uppercut!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Guadeloupe Canal .
I think Oman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
