Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Antonio Gracio! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mateo Velez! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracio tries to bum rush Velez with a series of wild strikes but Velez uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Velez throws a push kick but Gracio slaps the foot to one side. Velez shoots in looking for a takedown but Gracio manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Velez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Gracio misses with a head kick.
Gracio defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Velez. Velez walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Gracio checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Gracio misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Gracio feints and as Velez raises his hands in defense, Gracio changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Velez is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracio is aware though and is defending well. Gracio trying to control but Velez is working from the bottom. Velez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Velez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gracio defends well. Gracio trying to control the position from guard on top but Velez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracio trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Gracio knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Velez on the ground. Velez working a defensive guard here.

Gracio got a little sloppy there for a moment and Velez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gracio has managed to get both his arms back between Velez's legs - danger averted. Gracio chips away with some ground and pound. Gracio drops back looking for a leg! Velez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Velez manages to kick Gracio off! Gracio jumps back into Velez's guard. Gracio looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Velez has his foot on Gracio's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracio works his way back into a safe position though. Gracio trying to stand up but can't free himself from Velez's guard. Gracio not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Gracio trying to control but Velez is working from the bottom. Gracio would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Velez has his foot on Gracio's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracio works his way back into a safe position though. Velez wants to sweep but no luck. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velez is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Gracio rolls with it to try and escape but Velez cranks on the arm and Gracio is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
