The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dawson blocks a head kick by Jones.
Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dawson avoids it really well and circles away.

Dawson manages to break the clinch.

Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Dawson is retaining full guard.
Jones cracks Dawson with a solid left hand.
Jones controls from within his opponent's guard.

Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Dawson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dawson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jones's guard.
Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dawson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dawson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Dawson counters with a single leg into guard. Jones didn't expect that.
Jones wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well Dawson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
