Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between James Phema (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cliff Burton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burton misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Burton feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Phema is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Burton is controlling him.
Phema wants to sweep but no luck.

Burton passes Phema's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Burton is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Burton is trying to control. Phema wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Burton is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Phema sees it coming and defends easily.
Burton is trying to control the action in half guard but Phema is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Burton in particular looking to stall.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Burton seems to be working for a kimura but Phema defends the submission attempt.
Burton is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Phema knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Burton on the ground.

Phema pushes Burton off looking to stand but Burton dives back in and keeps control.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Phema's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Phema uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Burton has time to react.
Burton avoids a punch combination nicely.
Phema misses with a series of wild punches.
Burton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Phema is fending him off so far but Burton persists. Nope, Phema circles away and we're back to standing.
Phema throws a right and a left that both miss.
Phema gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burton drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Phema dives on top into guard.

Phema postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Burton preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Phema throws a strike but Burton rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Burton drops back looking for a leg! Phema is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Phema manages to kick Burton off! Burton jumps back into Phema's guard.
Burton is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Phema wants to sweep but no luck.

Burton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Phema bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Burton's guard.
Phema postures up in Burton's guard and throws a big left but Burton blocks it.
Phema postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Phema might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Burton is trying to control the position but Phema postures up.

Burton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Phema can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Phema wants to stand but Burton has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Phema has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Burton is proving hard to escape from.
Burton has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Phema doesn't defend quickly enough and Burton has managed to lock this one up! Can Phema escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Burton on a fantastic submission victory.
