Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh JC (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Ruiz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). JC's entrance music is Smashmouth - Why Cant We Be Friends. A fine choice. Ruiz has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Carlos Ruiz is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh JC! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Ruiz! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! JC is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ruiz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. JC tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ruiz swivels and escapes. A momentary lapse in concentration from Ruiz enables JC to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ruiz manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. JC drops back looking for a leg! Ruiz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ruiz manages to kick JC off! JC jumps back into Ruiz's guard. JC pushing down on Ruiz's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Ruiz wants to control but JC is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round. JC throws a strike but Ruiz avoids it easily and moves to full guard. JC postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. JC looking to pass the guard. JC forces his way into half guard. Ruiz avoiding damage under a succession of punches from JC. JC has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. JC thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ruiz's head. JC is pressing down on Ruiz's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ruiz is holding on for now. Ruiz is trying to control but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. JC is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ruiz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time JC. JC passes to side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ruiz manages to get back to half guard. JC trying to control the action but Ruiz is working from the bottom. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round. JC throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. JC keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. JC thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ruiz's head. JC is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. JC missing with the ground and pound from half guard. JC throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. JC is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. JC with a flurry of punches that miss. JC won't allow Ruiz to sweep him here. JC advances position into side control! JC is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ruiz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. JC misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
JC cracks Ruiz with a big elbow. JC lands an elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Josh JC dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
No luck for JC with that takedown attempt. Ruiz takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. JC shoots for a double leg takedown but Ruiz sprawls well. He's pushed JC's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. JC throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ruiz. Ruiz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ruiz misses with a looping left. Josh JC seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A jab from JC does it's job there. Some wild striking there from JC.
Ruiz thows a left - swing and a miss! JC shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ruiz but Ruiz pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh JC. That's going to take a lot out of him. JC scores with a jab. Ruiz acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Ruiz slips a jab and a cross from JC.
JC tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ruiz was well out of range. Poor timing from JC. Ruiz jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruiz takes one to the chin there. The fight stays on the outside here - Ruiz looks like he's thinking about clinching though. JC fails to land with a series of punches.
JC throws a left and a right that both miss
and Ruiz counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Ruiz thows a body shot but no joy. Ruiz throws a series of punches but JC avoids them all with ease. JC scores with a one two! Ruiz had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Ruiz lands a slapping body shot.
JC closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Ruiz quickly recovers to half guard. JC trying to control from Ruiz's half guard. Ruiz has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Ruiz is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. JC is aware though and is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruiz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in JC's guard. JC manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ruiz manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. JC with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. JC trying to control but Ruiz is working from the bottom. JC is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ruiz is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Ruiz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ruiz is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruiz keeping moving, preventing JC from controlling successfully. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. JC slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Ruiz taking a bit of punishment here - JC scoring with strikes. Ruiz on the wrong end of some ground and pound. JC is looking to take a break and control but Ruiz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. JC looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Josh JC overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ruiz is not content to let JC control the position. You can see the frustration on Ruiz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. JC trying to control the action but Ruiz is working from the bottom. JC is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Ruiz looks calm but he's in trouble here. JC gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Ruiz is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! JC lets go of the hold and Ruiz can pop his arm back in it's socket.
