PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Karpushev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Killer Kill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Karpushev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Killer Kill!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Illya Tyunina and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karpushev throws a sloppy head kick and Kill moves out of range easily.

Karpushev rushes Kill and presses him up against the cage.

Kill breaks the clinch.
Kill pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Karpushev throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kill tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Karpushev is in Kill's guard.
Karpushev is breathing heavily.
Karpushev pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kill is keeping the position for now.

Karpushev gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Kill tries to sprawl but Karpushev drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Kill looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kill is looking to improve his position.
Karpushev working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Karpushev is controlling the pace.
Karpushev wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kill keeps working.
Karpushev prevents Kill from improving his position.
Well, if Karpushev is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kill regains full guard. Nicely done.
Karpushev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

We're going to have a standup here because Alexander Karpushev wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Kill throws a leg kick which misses Karpushev's front leg but catches the back leg as Karpushev tries to avoid it.

The fight stays on the outside here - Karpushev looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Karpushev decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Karpushev tries to clinch but Kill moves out of range.

Kill throws a head kick that misses.
Killer Kill is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Karpushev has managed to clinch.
Karpushev keeps control of Kill as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Karpushev tightens his grip and picks Kill up, before dumping him to the ground. Kill manages to land in guard.

Kill looking for a guillotine here but Karpushev defends easily.
Karpushev pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kill is keeping the position for now.

Kill is working an open guard so Karpushev takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Kill misses with a head kick.

Karpushev clinches up against the cage.

Karpushev has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kill regains guard immediately.
Karpushev controlling from the top position.
Karpushev lands a couple of digs.
Karpushev stopping the sweep attempt from Kill.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Karpushev's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Karpushev is looking to work some ground and pound but Kill has wrist control.
Kill is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Karpushev dives into side control.
Kill manages to get back to half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Karpushev looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Karpushev perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Kill trying to control from the bottom.
Kill is trying to escape back to his feet but Karpushev uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Karpushev decides to stand back up. Karpushev steps back and let's Kill get back to his feet.
Kill throws a low kick but it's checked well by Karpushev.
Kill looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Kill circles away from the clinch attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Karpushev rushes Kill and presses him up against the cage.
Kill is trying to break the clinch but Karpushev is controlling him.
Kill wants to break free but Karpushev has control.

Kill gets underhooks to prevent Karpushev's takedown attempt.
Kill is trying to break free.
Karpushev goes for a takedown attempt but Kill pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Karpushev closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Karpushev lands in his opponent's guard.
Karpushev is pushing down on Kill's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kill is fighting to maintain full guard but Karpushev has managed to sneak the leg through.

Karpushev shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kill napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Karpushev is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kill knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Karpushev tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Karpushev has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Karpushev decides to stand back up. Karpushev steps back and let's Kill get back to his feet.

Kill pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Kill tries to circle away but Karpushev has him pinned against the cage.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Karpushev, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
