The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith shoots in for a double leg but beltran sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
beltran scores with a takedown into Smith's guard.
Smith keeping full guard, as beltran tries to pass.
Smith wants to sweep but no luck.
beltran tries to stand but Smith is controlling from the bottom.
beltran trying to control the position from guard on top but Smith is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
beltran has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smith is proving hard to escape from.

The ref stands the fighters back up because jd beltran just wasn't active enough.

and Smith counters with a nice double leg into side control. beltran won't be happy with that.

Smith with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
beltran wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poor strikes thrown by Smith there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Smith stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and beltran has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Smith manages to get his head free but now beltran has transitioned to an armbar! Smith grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from beltran! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
