Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hanzo Judo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jose Azevedo! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Azevedo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Judo. Azevedo throws the left hand but Judo avoids the punch easily. Azevedo looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Azevedo takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
It looks like Hanzo Judo has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Judo shoots for a double leg takedown but Azevedo sprawls well. He's pushed Judo's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Hanzo Judo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Judo is looking to clinch. Judo tries to clinch up but Azevedo circles away and keeps his distance. Judo shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hanzo Judo. That's going to take a lot out of him. Judo is breathing heavily. Judo fails in his attempt to clinch. Azevedo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Azevedo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Judo is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Azevedo decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet. Azevedo connects with a looping right hand.
Judo has closed the distance and engaged Azevedo in a clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Azevedo decides to pull guard. Azevedo has Judo pulled in close to control his posture. Azevedo wriggles free and stands up. Azevedo tries to clinch up but Judo circles away and keeps his distance. Azevedo moves into the clinch. Azevedo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Judo misses with a takedown attempt and Azevedo counters with a single leg into guard. Judo didn't expect that. Azevedo stands up from guard. Let's bang! Azevedo tries to score with a low kick but Judo moves his leg out of the way. Azevedo gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Judo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Judo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown so Azevedo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Azevedo looking to pass the guard. Azevedo controls from within his opponent's guard. Azevedo wanted to stand there but Judo had control of the position. Azevedo's corner is telling him to maintain position. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Judo looking for a guillotine here but Azevedo defends easily.
Azevedo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Azevedo advances to half guard. Judo slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Judo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Azevedo is one step ahead there.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Judo is looking for a triangle but Azevedo pushes his legs off easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Judo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Azevedo is one step ahead there. Azevedo stands and steps away. Judo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Judo throws out a loose jab but Azevedo uses good head movement to avoid it. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Judo misses with a wild body shot. Judo looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Judo tries to free his leg and advance position but Azevedo is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Azevedo wants to control from the top but Judo keeps moving. Judo wants to sweep but no luck. Azevedo has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Azevedo not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Judo trying to control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jose Azevedo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Judo lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Judo shoots and misses and Judo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Hanzo Judo's cut is getting worse. Judo tries to clinch up but Azevedo circles away and keeps his distance. Judo wants to clinch up but Azevedo keeps it at a distance. Judo misses with a takedown attempt letting Azevedo counter with a right hand. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Azevedo drops Judo with a beautiful combination! Judo stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Azevedo is looking for the KO! This has been an exciting period of action! The fighters circling - Judo throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Azevedo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Judo's guard. Judo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Azevedo stays in close to Judo's body and controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Judo tries to land a sweep but no joy. Judo is looking to sweep but instead, Azevedo has passed into half guard.
Judo pushes Azevedo off but Azevedo dives into side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Judo is looking to reverse the position. Azevedo has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jose Azevedo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Hanzo Judo's cut. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Azevedo wants to clinch. Judo walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Hanzo Judo's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Judo looks to land a combination but Azevedo avoids it well. Judo tries to close the distance and clinch but Azevedo swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Judo with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Azevedo to score with a decent uppercut.
Jeez, Hanzo Judo's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Hanzo Judo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
