PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Peter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Riviera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Riviera has chosen Ludacris - Act a fool as his entrance music. George Peter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, George Peter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcelo Riviera!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peter takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Peter fails with a takedown attempt.
Riviera fails to land with a series of punches.
Riviera tries to clinch up but Peter circles away and keeps his distance.
Peter closes the distance looking to clinch
and Riviera counters with a head kick. That will keep Peter thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Peter instigates a clinch.
Riviera fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Peter is trying to drag Riviera to the mat but Riviera just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Riviera tries to break free but Peter pushes him back against the cage.

Riviera jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Peter walks away with a smile on his face. Riviera gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Riviera makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Peter. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Peter clinches up against the cage.
Riviera keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Peter's efforts to push away.

Riviera escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and Peter decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Riviera's guard.

Peter passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Peter takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Riviera to pass into mount.

Peter seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Riviera for as long as he can get away with.

Peter has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Riviera slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Peter wants to stand up but Riviera has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Riviera is looking to improve his position.
Peter slips a nice elbow through Riviera's hands, connecting with Riviera's forehead.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Riviera is trying to stand up here but Peter is controlling him well.
Riviera misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Riviera is looking to get back to full guard here but Peter has managed to pass to side control instead.

Peter has control of Riviera's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Riviera regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Riviera is desperately trying to improve his position but Peter has a good base and remains in mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Peter closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Peter lands in his opponent's guard.

Peter slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Riviera.
Riviera is looking to improve his position.
Riviera is breathing heavily.

Peter is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Riviera tries to lock up and control but Peter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Riviera is desperately trying to improve his position but Peter has a good base and remains in mount.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

George Peter has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Peter darts in and clinches Riviera up against the cage.
Peter is trying to drag Riviera to the mat but Riviera just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Peter tries to score a body lock takedown but Riviera shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Peter lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Riviera backwards.
Peter is trying to break free.

Peter has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Riviera regains guard immediately.
Riviera thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Riviera is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Riviera throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Peter's corner is telling him to maintain position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Peter dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Peter shoots in for a double leg but Riviera sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Riviera is working to get back to half guard.

Riviera trying desperately to get to his feet.
George Peter is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Peter takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Riviera is wriggling around trying to escape.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Riviera tries to hold on but Peter postures up.

Riviera tries to lock up and control but Peter gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Marcelo Riviera has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
George Peter showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Peter, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
