PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Valtinho Debei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brent Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Valtinho Debei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brent Santos!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos shoots in but no luck this time.
Santos swats away the attempt to clinch by Debei.

Santos closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Debei quickly recovers to half guard.
Debei trying to control from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Santos lands a nice short elbow.
Santos performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Debei regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Santos slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Debei tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Santos passes Debei's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Santos content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Santos not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Brent Santos hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Debei dips to his left and cracks Santos with an uppercut!
Santos is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Debei closes the distance and clinches.

Santos gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Santos is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Debei looking for a sweep. Not yet Debei, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent Santos dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Debei misses with a takedown attempt

and Santos counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Debei might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Santos looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Santos works his way into side control.
Santos landing a few strikes.
Santos working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Santos lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Debei down.

Santos taking a breather here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Santos tries for a kimura but Debei is defending well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Santos working the head and body with strikes.
Santos is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Santos lands some shots froms side control.
Santos works to advance to full mount. Debei defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Santos looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent Santos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Santos shoots in looking for a takedown. Debei tries to sprawl out of it but Santos keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Debei manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Santos takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Debei tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Santos counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Debei wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Santos manages to pass to side control.
Santos content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Debei looking for submissions off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Santos scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Santos wants to advance to full mount but Debei doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
Santos slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Santos is looking to work some ground and pound but Debei has wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Santos content to stall in guard here.
Santos with a flurry of punches that miss.
Valtinho Debei has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Santos passes Debei's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brent Santos comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Santos winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
