The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sanchez wants to slow nicolausson down by chopping away at his legs.
Sanchez moves in looking to clinch but nicolausson pushes him off.
nicolausson has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sanchez.

nicolausson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sanchez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Sanchez regains half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanchez wants to control but nicolausson postures up.
nicolausson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sanchez keeps working.
Sanchez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sanchez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but nicolausson wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
nicolausson throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

nicolausson works to advance to full mount. Sanchez defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

nicolausson not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Sanchez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of nicolausson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take nicolausson's back!

nicolausson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sanchez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sanchez tries to keep control of the position but nicolausson is staying busy.

Sanchez is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged nicolausson with him. nicolausson is trying to defend but Sanchez has an arm under the chin now! nicolausson grimaces and is forced to tap out!
