Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Alistair Overeem! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Lee Wood! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Overeem closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Overeem in particular looking to stall. Overeem is trying to work for a kimura but Wood is defending well.
Overeem content to control rather than advance. Overeem seems to be looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Alistair Overeem just wasn't active enough. Overeem shoots in and gets a takedown into Wood's guard. Overeem stands up out of Wood's guard for a moment - Wood manages to land a nice upkick. Overeem stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wood swivels though and keeps the full guard. Overeem stands up and waves to Wood to follow him. Wood lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
It looks like Alistair Overeem has been cut. Overeem ducks under a wild hook from Wood. Overeem has taken the fight to the clinch.

Wood keeping full guard, as Overeem tries to pass. Overeem sitting in guard, not really doing much. Wood is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Overeem is controlling him. Wood lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Overeem! Wood looking to control but Overeem is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Overeem wants to control but Wood is having none of it. Wood is in the full mount, landing strikes. Overeem really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Overeem is squirming around, avoiding Wood's attempts to control the action. Overeem tries to hold on but Wood pushes him away. Overeem holds on for dear life. Overeem is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Wood raining down hammerfists from mount. Overeem is trying desperately to improve position. Overeem is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Overeem is breathing heavily. Overeem swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing. Overeem is trying to escape the mount.
Wood can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Overeem is looking to escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Lee Wood will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Alistair Overeem's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Wood closes the distance but Overeem moves to the side and Overeem counters with a nice double leg into side control. Wood won't be happy with that. Wood wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Wood is trying to control Overeem's posture but Overeem avoids it. Overeem stands up. Wood tries to keep at a distance but Overeem has taken the fight into the clinch. Overeem manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Overeem's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Good leg kick by Overeem there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Wood wants to clinch and Overeem counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Overeem. Wood is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood can't get the takedown.
Overeem blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Wood is trying to drag Overeem to the mat but Overeem just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Overeem jumps guard but Wood stands there with Overeem around his waist. Overeem gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Overeem breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Overeem scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Wood wants to get back to full guard. Overeem stalling. Wood flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Overeem passes into side control, despite Wood's attempt to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Overeem seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Wood for as long as he can get away with. Overeem is working Wood over with some ground and pound from side control. Wood is working to avoid the ground and pound but Overeem connects with a decent elbow. Wood manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Overeem wants to get back to full guard. Overeem on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Overeem tries to get out of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood wants to take a breather but Overeem is having none of it. Overeem gets back to full guard.
Overeem is pulling down on Wood's head. It's preventing any offense from Wood, at least for the moment.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Wood tries to clinch up and Overeem counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Wood's guard now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Overeem is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Overeem wanted to stand there but Wood had control of the position. Wood keeping full guard, as Overeem tries to pass. Wood wants to sweep here but Overeem controlling him for the moment. Wood working a defensive guard here.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Overeem gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Overeem closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wood circles away. Wood closes the distance looking to clinch and Overeem holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Overeem controlling the action here for a moment.
Overeem drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Wood gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Wood wants to break the clinch but can't.
Overeem lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Wood backwards. Overeem's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Wood darts in trying to clinch and Overeem counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Wood is trying to control but can't.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Overeem wants to free his trapped foot but Wood is holding on for dear life with his legs. Alistair Overeem overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood is trying to stand.
Wood wants to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wood looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Still in half guard, Overeem seems content to control. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Overeem stops Wood from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Overeem shoots in and gets a takedown into Wood's guard. Overeem scoring with punches to the head and body. Wood trying to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Overeem gets to his feet - Wood follows without any prompting. Overeem drives through with a takedown into guard. Overeem wants to control from the top but Wood keeps moving. Overeem has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Wood throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Overeem engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Wood wants to stand up but Overeem is controlling him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Wood is trying to control the position but Overeem postures up. Overeem stays in close to Wood's body and controls the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Alistair Overeem wasn't doing enough on the ground. Overeem slips under a jab from Wood. Wood throws a hook but Overeem avoids it easily. Overeem darts in and clinches Wood up against the cage. Wood wants a takedown.
Overeem with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Overeem breaks from the clinch.
The fight moves into the clinch position. Wood wants to break free but Overeem has control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Overeem jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wood walks away with a smile on his face. Overeem gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alistair Overeem. That's going to take a lot out of him. No joy there for Wood, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Overeem rushes Wood and presses him up against the cage. A frustrated look appears on Wood's face as he tries to break the clinch. Overeem manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Overeem working a defensive guard but Wood passes into half guard.
