Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tristan Payne! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jo Stinson! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Payne keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Payne is trying hard to land a takedown here. Stinson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Payne throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stinson dodges the punch combination from Payne.
Stinson wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Sloppy strikes from Payne. Those never looked like landing. Payne closes the distance and pushes Stinson back into the cage. Stinson prevents a body shot from Payne. Stinson wants a takedown but no success here.
Stinson jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Payne walks away with a smile on his face. Stinson gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Tristan Payne has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jo Stinson. Stinson avoids the body shot from Payne.
Stinson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Payne swivels and escapes. Tristan Payne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Payne swings for the body but Stinson moves out of range.
Payne ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Stinson moves away. Payne gets in close and instigates a clinch. Payne misses with a hook to the ribs.
Stinson tries to pull guard but Payne won't allow it.
Stinson is trying to drag Payne to the mat but Payne just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Stinson trying to control the position from guard on top but Payne is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Payne looking for a sweep. Not yet Payne, not yet. Payne will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Stinson drops back looking for a leg! Payne is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Payne manages to kick Stinson off! Stinson jumps back into Payne's guard. Payne is pulling down on Stinson's head. It's preventing any offense from Stinson, at least for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Stinson with a flurry of punches that miss. Payne wants to sweep here but Stinson controlling him for the moment. Payne is looking for a triangle but Stinson pushes his legs off easily.
Payne is adopting a defensive guard. Payne bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stinson's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Payne content to stall in guard here.
We're going to have a standup here because Tristan Payne wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Payne gets in close and instigates a clinch. Stinson looking to stall.
Payne lands a shot to the body. Stinson looks gassed! Both guys are working to get underhooks.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Payne looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Payne leaning his opponent against the cage. Payne tries to score a body lock takedown but Stinson shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Stinson tries to pull guard but Payne holds him up against the cage and eventually Stinson drops back down to his feet.

A frustrated look appears on Payne's face as he tries to break the clinch. Payne throws a head punch that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tristan Payne dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Payne shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Payne stalling. Stinson wants to get back to full guard but Payne has mounted him! Payne tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Stinson is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Payne misses with a head shot. Payne controlling from the full mount. Payne throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Payne controlling from mount. Payne misses with a head shot. Payne controlling his opponent. Stinson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Payne looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Stinson avoids a series of strikes thrown by Payne.
Payne get's back to his feet. Payne shoots in for a takedown but Stinson shows good takedown defense.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Payne takes the fight into the clinch. Payne breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Payne moves into the clinch successfully.
Payne tries a knee to the head but Stinson blocks it.
Payne has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stinson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Payne misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Payne is struggling to control the position. Payne misses with a body punch.

Stinson throws a sloppy head kick and Payne moves out of range easily. Stinson lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Stinson gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Stinson prevents the takedown attempt.

Stinson takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Payne tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stinson swats him away and circles back towards the center. Payne rushes Stinson and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Stinson is trying to force a seperation but Payne has the dominant position. Payne breaks from the clinch.
Payne throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Stinson's waist but Stinson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Payne off to one side. A low kick from Payne misses and Stinson counters with a takedown into side control. You can see the frustration on Payne's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Payne is trying to get back to half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stinson in the domination position with Payne hanging on. Payne sneaks back into half guard. Payne holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Payne moves into full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Payne manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Stinson manages to get himself to full guard.
Payne gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Stinson checks a leg kick. Payne closes the distance and pushes Stinson back into the cage. Payne doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Stinson has Payne pressed against the cage, preventing Payne from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Payne gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Stinson.
Payne content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Payne is trying to break free.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Payne misses with a short punch on the inside. Payne tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage. Payne is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Stinson gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Payne pulls guard effortlessly. Payne seems keen to control Stinson's posture. Payne is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Payne is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Payne is controlling the pace.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Tristan Payne. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Payne, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
