PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jason Stern (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Vronsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jason Stern!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Michael Vronsky!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stern tries to move into range but Vronsky moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Vronsky takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Vronsky avoids the head kick by Stern.
Stern throws a right hand that misses

and Vronsky counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Stern!
Stern working to try and regain half guard.
Vronsky throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Stern's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vronsky wants to control the action but instead Stern gets a body lock and reverses into Vronsky's guard! Nice work!

Vronsky is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Vronsky has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Vronsky misses with an uppercut
and Stern counters with a straight right hand.
Stern looks to land a combination. Vronsky sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Stern misses the jab.
Vronsky throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Vronsky throws an off balance right hand
and Stern makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Vronsky throws a left and a right that both miss
and Vronsky takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Vronsky throws a poor cross that misses
and Stern counters with a left to the body.
Vronsky on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Stern throws a good cross that connects.
Stern misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Vronsky.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stern slips a straight right by Vronsky.
Decent striking displayed by Stern there.
Stern throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Vronsky takes a swing at Stern's ribcage but misses.

Vronsky shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stern's guard.
Stern looking for a sweep. Not yet Stern, not yet.
Vronsky trying to move into half guard but instead Stern has managed to sweep!
Stern controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Vronsky is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Stern throws a big right hand that misses.

Vronsky wants to sweep but no luck.
Stern being controlled here momentarily.

Stern decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Vronsky, up you get!
Jason Stern is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vronsky fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stern manages to avoid it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Stern misses with a straight left.
Stern tries to clinch but Vronsky moves out of range.
Stern tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Vronsky was well out of range. Poor timing from Stern.
Vronsky closes the distance and clinches up with Stern, looking for a takedown. Vronsky pushes Stern against the cage but Stern circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Stern stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stern wants it to stay on the feet.
Stern looks to score with a jab to the body but Vronsky is just out of range.
Vronsky swings and misses with a hook to the body.

and Vronsky counters with a takedown into side control.
Stern tries to improve position but can't.
Stern tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Vronsky presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Stern wants to hold on but Vronsky pushes him away.
Vronsky trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Stern avoids a strike by Vronsky and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Vronsky's guard! Fantastic escape!
Vronsky pulls Stern in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stern wants to control from the top but Vronsky keeps moving.
Stern stands and throws Vronsky's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Vronsky tries to improve position but can't.
Vronsky is being controlled here.
Vronsky is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

Vronsky is not content to let Stern control the position.

Jason Stern has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Vronsky has a takedown stuffed.
Jason Stern has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Vronsky.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Stern slaps away a takedown attempt from Vronsky, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Stern moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Vronsky misses with a hook. Stern ducked under it nicely.
That kick from Stern tenderised Vronsky's leg. Vronsky is trying to keep his angry face on.
Stern throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

enabling Vronsky to counter with a crisp jab.
Stern throws a sloppy body shot
and Vronsky counters with a nice uppercut.

Vronsky throws a body punch but Stern moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Michael Vronsky will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Stern doesn't manage to clinch there - Vronsky circles away.
Stern throws a hook to the side of Vronsky's head but Vronsky sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

and Stern counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Stern cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Stern ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

letting Stern counter with a right hand.

and Stern counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

and Stern counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Stern stuffs the takedown attempt from Vronsky. Vronsky gets slowly back to his feet.

Stern tries to clinch but Vronsky moves out of range.
Vronsky misses with a left hand
and Stern counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Vronsky takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Vronsky misses with a hook to the body
and Stern counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Stern dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Vronsky takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vronsky sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Stern takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Stern's corner calls for a 1-2. Stern obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stern wants to clinch.
Stern tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Vronsky was well out of range. Poor timing from Stern.

Stern just misses with a punch to the body.
Stern digs a good hook to Vronsky's body.
Jason Stern is winning the standup battle so far.
Stern is looking to chop away at Vronsky's legs.

and Stern counters with a head kick. That will keep Vronsky thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Vronsky tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stern swivels and escapes.
Jason Stern has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Vronsky.

Stern throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Vronsky stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and Stern counters with a left and a right that stings Vronsky.

Stern throws a head kick but Vronsky moves out of range.
Stern throws a lazy right hand but Vronsky sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Vronsky keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Stern lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Vronsky takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Vronsky misses with a shot to the body
enabling Stern to counter with a crisp jab.
Stern throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Vronsky sees it coming and avoids it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Stern fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jason Stern showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Stern has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
