Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shawn Dyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kent Powell! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Thiago Cunha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Powell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Dyer was covering up waiting for the punch and Powell finishes the takedown easily into guard. Dyer keeping moving, preventing Powell from controlling successfully. Dyer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Dyer wants to stand up but Powell is controlling him. Powell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Dyer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Powell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dyer swivels though and keeps the full guard. Dyer wriggles free and stands up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Powell decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Powell throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Powell tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dyer knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Powell thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Powell is trying to control. Dyer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Powell is controlling the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Powell throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Powell working the head and body with strikes. Powell thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Powell lands with a punch from half guard. Powell thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Powell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Dyer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Powell throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Powell throwing shots but Dyer is blocking nicely. Powell is looking to stall here but Dyer recovers full guard. Powell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Dyer's head. Dyer pushes Powell off and gets back to his feet.
Powell thows a body shot but no joy. Powell throws a hook but Dyer avoids it easily. Powell sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Dyer tries to clinch but Powell moves out of range. Dyer throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Shawn Dyer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Powell counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Powell. This has been an exciting period of action! Powell cracks Dyer with a solid left hand. Dyer keeping moving, preventing Powell from controlling successfully. Powell is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Powell with a nice head shot there. Powell has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Powell wants to control from the top but Dyer keeps moving. Powell throwing strikes from guard but Dyer blocks nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kent Powell dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Powell misses with an uppercut. Dyer saw that one coming. Powell slips under a jab from Dyer. Powell closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dyer circles away. Powell misses with a left hand and Dyer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. A looping hook to the body misses from Powell. Dyer does a little dance to reset his feet. Nice jab there from Dyer. Dyer moves away from the strike by Powell. Dyer defending well as Powell loads up on a big left hand. Dyer lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Powell walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Dyer throws a jab when Powell was well out of range. Dyer lands a nice looking kick to the body. Powell takes a step back to recover. Shawn Dyer is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Powell throws a sloppy body shot
and Dyer counters with a one-two to the body. Dyer throws a head kick that Powell semi-blocks.
Dyer defending well as Powell loads up on a big left hand. Powell is breathing heavily. Nice sprawl there from Dyer as Powell shoots in.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dyer pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dyer lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Dyer fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Powell. Powell ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Powell misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dyer.
Dyer uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Powell. Sloppy strikes from Dyer. Those never looked like landing. Powell fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dyer manages to avoid it. Dyer looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Good leg kick by Dyer there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Powell has a takedown stuffed. Shawn Dyer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kent Powell. Dyer throws a series of punches but Powell avoids them all with ease. Dyer lands a lovely overhand right. Dyer pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Powell takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dyer throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Powell. Dyer misses with an attempted mid kick.
Powell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Dyer is looking for a sweep. Powell is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Powell trying to control the action but Dyer is working from the bottom. Powell works his foot free and advances to mount. Powell thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dyer avoids a series of strikes thrown by Powell.
Dyer is trying to stand. Powell with good strikes from the mount here! Powell misses with a head shot. Powell scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Powell trying to control but Dyer is having none of it. Dyer is in a horrible position here. Powell smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Powell in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Powell lands with some strikes. Powell has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Dyer's face.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Dyer wants to hold on but Powell pushes him away. Powell lands a big elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Powell looks to land a right hand but Dyer moved out of range. Dyer throws out a loose jab but Powell uses good head movement to avoid it. Powell throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Dyer tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Powell is in Dyer's guard. Powell lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Dyer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Powell controls the pace. Powell in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Powell throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Powell trying to control the position from guard on top but Dyer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Powell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dyer's guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Powell prevents Dyer from standing back up.

Powell is looking to take a break and control but Dyer is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Dyer tries to kick Powell off but Powell keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Dyer wants to improve his position but Powell is controlling well.
Dyer is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Powell scores with a couple of nice shots.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Powell winds up and cracks Dyer with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Powell trying to control the action but Dyer is working from the bottom. Powell scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Kent Powell has got the better of the ground game so far. Powell throwing shots but Dyer is blocking nicely. Powell sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dyer defending well though. Powell is keen to just control but Dyer is a slippery customer.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Powell throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Dyer is not content to let Powell control the position. Powell missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Dyer is not content to let Powell control the position. Powell throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Powell is keen to just control but Dyer is a slippery customer. Powell is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Powell with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Kent Powell was stalling too much, according to the referee. Powell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dyer moves away. Powell rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Dyer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Powell wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Powell swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dyer throws the left hand but Powell avoids the punch easily. The fighters circling - Dyer throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Dyer throws a leg kick but Powell checks it. Powell swings for the body but Dyer moves out of range.
Dyer lands a jab-cross combination. Powell thows a body shot but no joy. Powell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dyer moves away. Powell misses with a body shot.
And that's the end of the fight! Kent Powell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Powell has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
