Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Drake Hollis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Spiller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Drake Hollis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, David Spiller! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hollis wants to clinch. Hollis throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Excellent takedown into side control there by Hollis. Hollis wants to control for a moment but Spiller uses the opportunity to move back to half guard. Hollis wants to take a breather but Spiller is having none of it. Hollis moves nicely into side control. Hollis is staying tight to Spiller's torso, preventing him from escaping. Sloppy strikes there by Hollis. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spiller taking a bit of punishment here - Hollis scoring with strikes. Hollis throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Hollis decides to take the fight back to the feet. A nice combination there by Spiller.
Spiller waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hollis. Hollis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hollis showed some decent athleticism there. Hollis is thwarting Spiller's attempts to control the position. Spiller has a hand on Hollis's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Hollis takes advantage of the position though and mounts him! Spiller taking shots to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hollis wants to take Spiller's back but he can't do it this time. Spiller is trying to escape the mount.
Spiller tries to hold on but Hollis pushes him away. Hollis tries to control but Spiller wriggling away. The referee warns Spiller that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Hollis moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Spiller has worked his arm free - good work by Spiller!
You can see the frustration on Spiller's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hollis trying to control the position but Spiller is working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Spiller is trying to control Hollis's posture but Hollis avoids it. Hollis is trying to get an arm triangle but Spiller is defending well. Spiller sneaks out the side door and pushes Hollis away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Hollis fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Hollis defending well as Spiller loads up on a big left hand. Spiller avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nice uppercut there from Spiller. Hollis tries a low kick but Spiller avoids it. Spiller scores with a one two! Hollis had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Hollis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spiller tries to avoid it but Hollis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spiller to the ground. Spiller escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hollis fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drake Hollis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice defenses there by Hollis. Hollis shoots in for a double leg but Spiller sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Drake Hollis will probably get the nod. That's time! Hollis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Spiller looks to land a left hand but Hollis moved out of range nicely. Hollis fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

and Spiller counters with a series of strikes. Hollis will be more careful next time no doubt. Spiller misses with the combination.
Spiller shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Spiller was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Hollis bucks up and throws Spiller to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Hollis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Spiller counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Hollis tries for a takedown but Spiller circles away easily and Spiller counters with a straight right hand. Hollis misses with a straight left. Spiller throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hollis shoots and misses and Spiller counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hollis thinking. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drake Hollis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Spiller throws a hook but Hollis avoids it easily. Hollis takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spiller throws a shot from downtown. Hollis moves away and avoids it. Hollis looks to throw the jab but Spiller is out of range. Hollis fails with the takedown and Spiller counters with a one-two to the body. Spiller scores with a jab. Hollis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Spiller looks to score with a jab to the body but Hollis is just out of range. Spiller scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Spiller might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Hollis misses with a takedown and Spiller counters with a two punch combo. Spiller misses with a combination
and Hollis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Spiller's guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hollis looking to sit in guard and control but Spiller gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hollis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Hollis can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Spiller controls the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Spiller wants to control from the top but Hollis keeps moving. Spiller decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Hollis, up you get! Spiller throws a hook but Hollis avoids it easily. Hollis tries to clinch and Spiller counters with a nice uppercut. Hollis on the wrong end of a nice jab. A big right from Spiller misses. Hollis with a poor takedown and Spiller counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Spiller, as that shot connected.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Spiller lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
David Spiller seems to be getting the better of the standup. Spiller gets the takedown into side control. The referee asks Spiller politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Spiller prefers to stall for the moment though. Spiller is putting a hurting on Hollis here, landing some big shots from side control. Hollis tries to bench press Spiller off him but Spiller keeps the position. Spiller wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hollis keeps working. You can see the frustration on Hollis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Spiller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hollis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Spiller trying to control the position but Hollis is working away.

OK we're going to have a standup here. David Spiller hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Spiller scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hollis doesn't seem bothered though. Hollis uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Spiller. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hollis closes the distance but Spiller moves to the side and Spiller counters with a straight right hand. Spiller throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Drake Hollis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Hollis throws a sloppy head kick and Spiller moves out of range easily. Hollis closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
David Spiller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Hollis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Spiller throws a one two combo.
Spiller misses with a wild body shot. Hollis has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Spiller finds it's way round the side to connect with Hollis's head. Hollis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Spiller counters with a nice uppercut. Hollis tries for a takedown but Spiller circles away easily and Spiller counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Spiller feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Holliss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Good standup being displayed there by Spiller as he connects with a hook. Spiller displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Hollis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Spiller counters with a straight right hand. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Drake Hollis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Spiller misses with an uppercut. Hollis saw that one coming. Hollis doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hollis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Spiller throws a body punch but Hollis moves out of range. Spiller lands a lovely overhand right. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Spiller throws a series of punches but Hollis moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spiller lands a glancing blow to the side of Hollis's head. Spiller throws a shot from downtown. Hollis moves away and avoids it. Spiller misses with a few strikes there.
Spiller misses with an uppercut. Hollis saw that one coming. Hollis with a lazy takedown attempt and Spiller cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Hollis takes a shot right to the bread basket. Spiller lands a nice shot to the body.

Spiller moves into range and connects with a jab. Spiller bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Sloppy strikes from Spiller. Those never looked like landing. Hollis ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Spiller fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Hollis on the side of the head. Spiller jabs Hollis right on the nose. Hollis blinks but takes it well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Spiller misses with a straight right.

Hollis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Spiller counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Spiller. Spiller controlling from the top position. Spiller gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Hollis steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Spiller. Hollis takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Hollis gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Hollis fails with the takedown and Hollis takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Spiller misses with a straight right.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Spiller getting the better of the striking in that exchange. Spiller ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hollis moves away. Hollis staying out of range there. Spiller fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hollis looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Spiller has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Spiller scores with a jab. Hollis acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Hollis blocks a jab. Spiller lands with a cross. Spiller lands a two punch combo.
Spiller jabbing away but nothing is landing. Spiller missing with a left hand there. Hollis was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Hollis looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Spiller throws a looping overhand right but Hollis ducks down to avoid it. Spiller closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Spiller winds up and cracks Hollis with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Spiller keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. David Spiller has got the better of the ground game so far. Spiller decides to return to a standing position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Spiller thows a left - swing and a miss! Spiller keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Spiller lands with a straight right. Hollis didn't see that one coming. Spiller lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Hollis takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Spiller misses with a wild body shot. Spiller throws a jab but it's blocked by Hollis. Nice shot lands for Spiller.
And that's the end of the fight! David Spiller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Spiller has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
