Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Larry Newman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Igor Frankenstein! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Konstantin Menshow and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Newman changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Nice takedown defense from Frankenstein. No joy for Newman on that attempt. No luck for Newman with that takedown attempt. No luck for Newman with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Larry Newman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Newman fails with a takedown attempt. Frankenstein tries to clinch up. Newman takes one to the side of the head.
Newman fails to land the takedown. Frankenstein moves into range and clinches up with Newman. Frankenstein fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Frankenstein ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Frankenstein no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Frankenstein looking for a sweep. Not yet Frankenstein, not yet. Newman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Newman won't allow Frankenstein to sweep him here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Newman postures up.
Newman wants to pass the guard but Frankenstein is keeping the position. Frankenstein tries to land a sweep but no joy. Newman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Newman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Frankenstein misses with the combination.
Newman wants to clinch and Frankenstein counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Newman! Frankenstein lands a heavy elbow. Newman tries to get back to half guard but can't. Newman is breathing heavily. Newman looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Frankenstein keeps control of the position easily here as Newman tries to buck him off.
Frankenstein has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Frankenstein keeps control of the position as Newman tries to break free.
Frankenstein looking for the RNC. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Frankenstein controls the action. Newman turns into Frankenstein and is now in his guard.
Frankenstein has his feet on Newman's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Excellent takedown into side control there by Newman. This has been an exciting period of action! Frankenstein is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Newman is trying for a kimura here. Frankenstein looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Newman wins by kimura!
