PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cliff Sierra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and steve Austin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sierra comes to the cage accompanied by Sweet Dreams-Manson. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Cliff Sierra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, steve Austin!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Austin gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Austin can't break the clinch.
Austin tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Sierra blocking some punches.
Sierra jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Austin walks away with a smile on his face. Sierra gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Sierra instigates a clinch.
Sierra tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Austin smiles and moves away.

Sierra has closed the distance and engaged Austin in a clinch.
Austin wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sierra has him pressed against the cage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Austin.

Sierra has clasped his hands together around Austin's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Austin tries to buck Sierra off but Sierra is having none of it.

Sierra tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sierra has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Sierra wants to lay and pray for a moment but Austin keeps working.

Sierra decides to stand back up. Sierra steps back and let's Austin get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Austin throws a hook to the side of Sierra's head but Sierra sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Sierra shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Austin sprawls well. Austin wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sierra gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cliff Sierra. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Austin misses with a double jab.
Sierra showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Austin.
Austin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Austin wants to clinch.

Sierra closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Austin quickly recovers to half guard.

Sierra wants to work for an arm triangle but Austin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Sierra trying to mount his opponent but Austin defends it.
Sierra takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sierra sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Austin defending well though.
Sierra looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Sierra prevents Austin from standing back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Cliff Sierra wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Austin tries to clinch but Sierra moves out of range.
A head kick by Austin misses
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sierra.
Austin misses with an uppercut. Sierra saw that one coming.
Sierra fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Austin.
Austin looks gassed!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Austin gets tackled into the cage by Sierra. Sierra maintains the clinch.

Austin tries to circle away but Sierra has him pinned against the cage.

Sierra with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Austin misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Austin is trying to force a seperation but Sierra has the dominant position.
Sierra tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
A frustrated look appears on Austin's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Sierra ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sierra no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Sierra doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Austin connects with a couple of short punches.
Sierra lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Austin!
Austin really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Sierra cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Sierra is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Austin can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sierra takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Sierra jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Austin manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Sierra fails to land a wild elbow strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Austin is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Sierra is controlling him well.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sierra is looking to take a break and control but Austin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Sierra in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Austin tries to sprawl but Sierra drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Austin tries to kick Sierra off but Sierra keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Sierra thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Sierra stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Austin to get to his feet.

Sierra rushes Austin and presses him up against the cage.

Austin manages to break the clinch.

Sierra has Austin pressed against the cage, preventing Austin from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Sierra feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sierra has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Sierra has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Austin wants to stand up but Sierra is controlling him.
Austin is breathing heavily.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Cliff Sierra wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sierra shoots for a takedown but Austin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sierra shoots for a double leg takedown but Austin sprawls well. He's pushed Sierra's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Austin lands with a nice combination. Sierra backs away looking to recover.

Sierra fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Austin, pushing him back against the cage.

Sierra tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Austin just stands there and leans against the cage.

Austin is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sierra is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Austin to the mat. Austin regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Sierra stands and throws Austin's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Austin tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sierra wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Austin is trying to control Sierra's posture but Sierra avoids it.

Sierra wants to take a breather but Austin is having none of it.

Sierra is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Austin defends it well.

Sierra perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Austin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sierra counters with a thumping low kick.
Sierra lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Austin wants to clinch but Sierra slips to the side
and Sierra counters with a nice leg kick.

Austin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Sierra drops back looking for a leg! Austin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Austin manages to kick Sierra off! Sierra jumps back into Austin's guard.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Sierra shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Austin napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Austin is not content to let Sierra control the position.
Austin wants to control but Sierra postures up.
Sierra in side control lands a decent elbow.
Sierra creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Sierra wants to lay and pray for a moment but Austin keeps working.
The ground and pound from Sierra seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Cliff Sierra overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sierra wants to control but Austin is keeping him busy.
Austin can't do much from the bottom here.

Austin takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Austin struggling a bit here.
Austin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Sierra trying to control the action but Austin is working from the bottom.

Austin sneaks out the side door and pushes Sierra away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Sierra closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Austin quickly recovers to half guard.

Sierra decides to return to a standing position.
Cliff Sierra is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Sierra instigates a clinch.
Sierra drops down looking for an ankle pick but Austin pulls his leg out and moves away.
Sierra dodges the punch combination from Austin.
Austin throws a sloppy head kick

and Sierra counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sierra slips a nice elbow through Austin's hands, connecting with Austin's forehead.
Sierra looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Austin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Sierra shoots in and bounces Austin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

steve Austin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Cliff Sierra is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sierra slips nicely into half guard.
Austin is looking to get back to full guard here but Sierra has managed to pass to side control instead.

Sierra decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Sierra drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sierra tries to free his leg and advance position but Austin is retaining full guard.

Sierra's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Well Sierra has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
