PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Quim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Merik Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hunt has chosen Comfortably Numb as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Merik Hunt!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunt tries to clinch there but Quim circles away.
Hunt tries to close the distance and clinch but Quim swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hunt doesn't manage to clinch there - Quim circles away.
Hunt moves in looking to clinch but Quim pushes him off.
Hunt fails with an attempt to clinch.

Hunt looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Quim!
Hunt tries to control but Quim wriggling away.
Quim is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Quim wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Hunt.

Hunt controlling the pace for now.
The referee warns Quim that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Quim is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Hunt cracks Quim with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Quim knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hunt on the ground.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hunt working for a submission but Quim is keeping him at bay.

Hunt postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Quim looks a forlorn figure.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Quim is squirming around, avoiding Hunt's attempts to control the action.

Hunt throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Quim because Hunt loaded up on that one.

Hunt has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hunt has control of Quim's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Quim regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Hunt throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Hunt fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Hunt cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Hunt has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Quim's face.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hunt wants to finish this one by submission but Quim is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Hunt.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hunt landing strikes from the mount and Quim is in trouble!
Hunt can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Quim is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Merik Hunt dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Quim swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hunt lands the left hand.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hunt.
Hunt swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quim keeps the fight on the outside.
Hunt tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in the close the distance. Quim manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hunt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Hunt shoots for a double leg takedown but Quim sprawls well. He's pushed Hunt's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Quim leaves Hunt with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Merik Hunt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Quim throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hunt stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and Quim makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Quim counters with a right hand to the body.

Hunt fails with the takedown
and Quim counters with a nice leg kick.

and Quim counters with a two punch combo.
Quim with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Hunt stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Quim.
Hunt takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Hunt moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Hunt takes a shot right to the bread basket.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hunt on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Hunt crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Quim - the referee stops the clock and Hunt gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Quim. Hunt manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Quim lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

and Quim counters with a stiff right hand.
Quim scoring well with a low kick there.
Quim cracks the inside of Hunt's front leg.
Quim delivers a nice body kick.
Quim lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Hunt walks into a stiff left hand from Quim.
Hunt ducks right into an uppercut from Quim.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Quim!
Quim lands a body shot.
Quim comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Quim.

Quim fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Hunt has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

The fighters circle momentarily. Quim darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

and Quim counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Quim lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Hunt tries to clinch up
and Quim counters with a slapping leg kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jimmy Quim showed his dominance in that final round.
I have no idea who won that fight. Let's wait and see whether the judges are as confused as me! Time for a split decision perhaps?!. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
