Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Antonio Gracio! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mateo Velez! The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracio gets the takedown into side control. Velez tries to improve position but can't. Gracio trying to control the position but Velez is working away. Velez manages to get back to half guard. Gracio wants to lay and pray for a moment but Velez keeps working. Gracio tries to pass the half guard into mount. Velez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Velez actively working from the bottom here. Velez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gracio's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gracio's back! Gracio is trying to break free.
Gracio just trying to survive but Velez is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Gracio showing good submission defense here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velez looking to break Gracio's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Gracio remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Velez will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Velez trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gracio has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Velez. Velez patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Velez throws a series of strikes and Gracio wriggles onto his back, so he's now mounted. He's in real trouble here. Velez looking for a guillotine from mount but Gracio is having none of it. Gracio avoids a series of strikes thrown by Velez.
Velez throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Velez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Gracio to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Gracio shrugs it off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Velez swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gracio is now in Velez's guard. A big mistake from Velez there, giving up the dominant position! Velez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gracio passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Velez looks gassed! Gracio decides to stand and escape the position. Velez should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Gracio bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Gracio gets in close and instigates a clinch. Gracio has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Velez clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Gracio softening up his opponent with strikes here.

Gracio lands an elbow to the side of the head. Gracio trying to control. Gracio doesn't have the hooks in and Velez manages to turn into his guard.
Gracio controls Velez momentarily but Velez frees himself. Velez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Velez drops back looking for a leg! Gracio is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gracio manages to kick Velez off! Velez jumps back into Gracio's guard. Velez trying to control but Gracio is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gracio looking for a sweep. Not yet Gracio, not yet. Velez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Velez tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracio is retaining full guard. Velez won't allow Gracio to get back to his feet. Velez is looking to work some ground and pound but Gracio has wrist control. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gracio working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Velez. Gracio trying to keep a closed guard but Velez is proving a slippery customer.
Velez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Velez tries to free his leg and advance position but Gracio is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mateo Velez will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Velez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Gracio has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Velez is working away from the top position though. Gracio is trying to get back to full guard. Velez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gracio is just riding it out for now. Velez eventually gives up the hold. Velez is working for a kimura but Gracio is defending it quite comfortably.
That's one minute gone in the round. Velez is keen to just control but Gracio is a slippery customer. Gracio is defending against the submission attempts here by Velez.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Gracio is looking for a sweep. Velez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Velez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Velez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Gracio is trying to get back to full guard. Gracio is working hard here to advance position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Velez seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Gracio is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
