Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Yashin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Timmay Timmay! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Timmay throws a right hand that Yashin ducks under and follows up with a left that Yashin also avoids with ease. Yashin shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Timmay manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Yashin decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Timmay shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Yashin counters with a low kick, right behind Timmay 's knee. Yashin circles away from the clinch attempt and Yashin counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Yashin is taking a breather. Timmay says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Yashin stands up from half guard. Timmay looks gassed! Timmay with a lazy takedown attempt and Yashin counters with a nice double leg into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yashin gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Yashin lands a big head kick that sends Timmay tumbling to the mat! Yashin takes a step backwards and waves Timmay back to his feet - he wants the finish!
It looks like Timmay Timmay has been cut. Yashin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Yashin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Timmay is rocked! Yashin has hold of Timmay's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Timmay manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Yashin punishing his opponent with strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Timmay tries to get back to half guard but can't. Yashin lands a big shot there that rocks Timmay but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Yashin is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Timmay can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Yashin is working for a guillotine from mount but Timmay frees his head quite easily.
Timmay taking shots to the head. Timmay is trying to get back to his feet but can't. Yashin sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Yashin looking to secure an arm triangle but Timmay defends it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yashin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Yashin lands a big elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yashin with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The referee warns Timmay that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Yashin punching from mount but Timmay doing a good job of avoiding damage. Timmay is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alex Yashin dominated that round. The cut man is working on Timmay Timmay's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Timmay misses with a takedown and Yashin counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Yashin. Yashin content to stall in guard here. Yashin wants to control from the top but Timmay keeps moving. Alex Yashin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Timmay wants to stand but Yashin is controlling the position. Yashin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Timmay's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yashin gets to his feet - Timmay follows without any prompting. Timmay is breathing heavily. Timmay wants to clinch so Yashin counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Timmay trying to keep a closed guard but Yashin is proving a slippery customer.
Timmay keeping moving, preventing Yashin from controlling successfully. Yashin looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Timmay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yashin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Yashin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Timmay is keeping the position for now.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Yashin rushes Timmay and presses him up against the cage. Timmay is looking to break free of the clinch but Yashin has double underhooks. Timmay is trying to break the clinch but Yashin has him pressed against the cage. Yashin working Timmay over with knees to the body. Timmay has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Yashin is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Timmay misses with the head strike.
Yashin stalls. Timmay jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Yashin walks away with a smile on his face. Timmay gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Alex Yashin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Timmay Timmay. Yashin forces Timmay back against the cage and clinches. Yashin breaks the clinch.
Timmay misses with a series of wild punches.
Yashin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Yashin advances position into side control! Timmay is not content to let Yashin control the position. Timmay wants to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Timmay parries the strikes from Yashin easily there. Yashin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Timmay to escape.
Yashin has knee on belly and moves into mount. Yashin scores with a couple of good head shots there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alex Yashin dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Timmay Timmay's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Timmay tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Yashin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Timmay is looking to control Yashin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Timmay avoid being mounted? Timmay is trying to stand up here but Yashin is controlling him well. Yashin sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Timmay defending well though. Timmay tries to kick Yashin off but Yashin keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Yashin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Timmay has managed to free his arm - good work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yashin wants to pass the guard but Timmay is defending well. Yashin missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Yashin passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Timmay! Yashin lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Yashin takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Yashin trying to control but he's not successful this time. Timmay tries to hold on but Yashin postures up. Timmay is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Yashin is staying active.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Timmay is working to get back to half guard.
Yashin raining down hammerfists from mount. Yashin with a couple of short strikes. Timmay wants to hold on but Yashin pushes him away. Timmay tries to buck Yashin off but he can't manage it. Yashin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yashin controlling his opponent. Yashin's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Timmay Timmay has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Alex Yashin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
