Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Lars Fredrickson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Philip Power! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fredrickson clinches. Power managing to block the knees to the body from Fredrickson.
Power blocks an elbow strike from Fredrickson.
Power escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Fredrickson moves out of range of the strikes. Power tries a low kick but Fredrickson avoids it. Fredrickson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Power's guard. Fredrickson sitting in guard here, content to control. Power is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Power looks to land a strike but Fredrickson avoids it nicely and regains full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Fredrickson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Power trying to control the position from guard on top but Fredrickson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Fredrickson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fredrickson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Power throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fredrickson works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Fredrickson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Power landing some decent shots from guard. Fredrickson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Power doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Power manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Fredrickson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Power is desperately trying to improve his position but Fredrickson has a good base and remains in mount. Power tries to hold on but Fredrickson pushes him away. Fredrickson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fredrickson has hold of Power's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Power manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Power is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Power is trying desperately to improve position. Fredrickson wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. Power is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Fredrickson locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Power is forced to tap!
