Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, DJ Jenkins! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Eduard Melkonyan! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Melkonyan scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Jenkins on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jenkins tries to get out of the position. Melkonyan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Melkonyan tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Melkonyan landing strikes. Melkonyan throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Jenkins could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Melkonyan misses with the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jenkins wants to control but Melkonyan postures up. Melkonyan is looking to take a break and control but Jenkins is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Melkonyan is trying to get an arm triangle but Jenkins is defending well. Melkonyan tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melkonyan has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Melkonyan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jenkins. Jenkins paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Jenkins misses with a wild combination.
Jenkins connects with a right hand. Melkonyan shakes it off. Jenkins looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Melkonyan scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jenkins has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Melkonyan is working away from the top position though. Melkonyan is nestled in close to Jenkins, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Melkonyan has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Jenkins defend it? Melkonyan steps over the head and cranks it - Jenkins is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Melkonyan!
