PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gary Oak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thery Sanon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanon is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Singles Run. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gary Oak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Thery Sanon!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Oak.
Sanon looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Oak shoots in for a double leg but Sanon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Sanon tries to clinch but Oak is having none of it.
Oak tries a head kick but it misses.
Sanon blocks a head kick by Oak.
Oak closes the distance but Sanon moves to the side

and Sanon moves into the clinch.
Sanon has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Oak is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sanon prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gary Oak. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanon is looking to break free of the clinch but Oak has double underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Oak jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sanon walks away with a smile on his face. Oak gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Oak drops down looking for an ankle pick but Sanon pulls his leg out and moves away.
Oak shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sanon stuffs the takedown.

Oak tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sanon swivels and escapes.

Oak clinches with his opponent.

Oak misses with the head strike.
Sanon is pressed up against the cage. Oak has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sanon down to the mat. Sanon avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Sanon lands a jab to the nose.

Oak shoots in looking for a takedown. Sanon tries to sprawl out of it but Oak keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sanon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sanon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Oak's half guard.
Oak tries to get to full guard but Sanon has control of the leg.
Oak is staying active underneath Sanon, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The fighters are battling for position here. Oak manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sanon wants to stand but Oak has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Oak's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Thery Sanon has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Oak wants to control but Sanon is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Sanon is trying to control. Oak wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanon wants to free his trapped foot but Oak is holding on for dear life with his legs.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Thery Sanon dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Oak tries to close the distance and clinch but Sanon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sanon stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sanon wants it to stay on the feet.

Oak has taken the fight to the clinch.
Oak tries to score a body lock takedown but Sanon shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Sanon is trying to break the clinch but Oak has him pressed against the cage.
Sanon wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Oak pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Oak shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sanon but Sanon pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Oak connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Oak lands with a good body shot.
Oak shoots in for a double leg but Sanon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Oak looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sanon is fending him off so far but Oak persists. Nope, Sanon circles away and we're back to standing.

Oak is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Oak rushes Sanon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Sanon ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Sanon no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Oak lands a couple of digs.

Oak won't allow Sanon to get back to his feet.

Oak passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Sanon is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Oak will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Oak swings around for an armbar but Sanon sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Oak's guard.

Oak tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Oak is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Oak stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Oak takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Oak really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Oak dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Oak gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Sanon is working for takedown but Oak is calmly controlling the position for now.
Oak goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sanon prevents it.

Oak gets control of Sanon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Oak will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Oak bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanon's guard.
Sanon wants to stand but Oak is controlling the position.
Oak controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Oak tries to stand but Sanon is controlling from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Oak engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Sanon is working an open guard so Oak takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Oak drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Oak postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Oak tries to free his leg and advance position but Sanon is retaining full guard.
Oak is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sanon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Oak has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sanon is proving hard to escape from.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Thery Sanon.

Sanon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Sanon displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Oak.
Gary Oak is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Oak tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Oak scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Sanon moves in looking to clinch but Oak pushes him off.
Oak closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sanon circles away.

Sanon lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
