The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Balboa fails to land the takedown.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Rugas.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rugas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Balboa tries for a takedown but Rugas circles away easily
and Rugas counters with a single leg into guard. Balboa didn't expect that.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Balboa has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rugas can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Rugas wanted to stand there but Balboa had control of the position.
Rugas throws and elbow that misses. Balboa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rugas's guard. Nice move by Balboa!
Balboa works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Balboa looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Balboa trying to advance position but Rugas counters by regaining guard.

Balboa slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rugas is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Balboa asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Balboa goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Rugas rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Balboa's guard! Nice work there by Rugas!
Balboa looking for a sweep. Not yet Balboa, not yet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Balboa is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Rugas frees his head nicely. Oh but Balboa has switched to an armbar! Rugas is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
