Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between jelle overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Spuke Ares (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spuke Ares will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, jelle overeem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Spuke Ares!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ares shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

overeem has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ares can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Ares controlling from the top position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
I looks like Ares might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Spuke Ares.

Ares changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. overeem looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Ares is trying to get an arm triangle but overeem is defending well.

Ares stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Ares clinches up against the cage.
Ares prevents overeem from breaking the clinch.

Ares pulls guard effortlessly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ares has his hands on overeem's head, controlling the position.

Ares uses the cage to get back to his feet.
overeem darts in trying to clinch

and Ares counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Ares passes overeem's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Well, if Ares is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
overeem is looking to control Ares's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can overeem avoid being mounted?
Ares uses his free foot to push down on overeem's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for overeem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
overeem is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
overeem wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Ares.
overeem might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ares looking to control and managing it successfully.
overeem wants to control but Ares is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spuke Ares dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


overeem lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by overeem.


It looks like Spuke Ares has been cut.
overeem with a lazy takedown attempt

and Ares counters with a single leg into guard. overeem didn't expect that.
Ares trying to control but overeem is working from the bottom.
Ares pushes down on overeem's leg and manages to get into half guard.
overeem knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ares on the ground.
Ares slows the pace down in half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ares works his foot free and advances to mount.

Ares controlling from mount.
overeem on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if overeem tries to get out of the position.
Ares tries to control but overeem wriggling away.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Spuke Ares wasn't active enough on the ground.
overeem dodges the punch combination from Ares.
overeem doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Ares counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ares forces his way into half guard.
Ares stalling.
Ares trying to control the action but overeem is working from the bottom.

Ares slows the pace down in half guard.
overeem tries to kick Ares off but Ares keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spuke Ares showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and Ares counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ares trying to mount his opponent but overeem defends it.
overeem is not content to let Ares control the position.
Ares content to control rather than advance.
Ares is looking to take a break and control but overeem is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Spuke Ares hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

overeem gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
overeem gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Ares.
overeem tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

overeem pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

so Ares counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ares seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

overeem can't keep his opponent in guard - Ares advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

overeem is trying to get back to full guard.
Ares content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Spuke Ares is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Spuke Ares.
overeem moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
jelle overeem is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
overeem with a poor takedown

and Ares counters with a nice double leg into side control. overeem won't be happy with that.

Ares decides to stand back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ares takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
