PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Optimus Prime (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Katsuro Masaru (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Optimus Prime!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Katsuro Masaru!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Hirohito Nitta and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masaru tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Prime paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Masaru tries to clinch but Prime is having none of it.

Masaru tries to close the distance and clinch but Prime swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Prime swats away the attempt to clinch by Masaru.
Masaru scores with a leg kick.
Prime throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Masaru's waist but Masaru gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Prime off to one side.
Katsuro Masaru seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Masaru throws a leg kick but Prime sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Masaru tries to clinch but Prime is having none of it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Masaru fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Prime, pushing him back against the cage.
Masaru throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Prime blocks it with crossed arms.
Prime has Masaru pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Masaru manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Prime tries for a takedown but Masaru manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Optimus Prime. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Prime has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Masaru avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Masaru looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Masaru breaks from the clinch.
Masaru throws a sloppy head kick and Prime moves out of range easily.
Masaru looks gassed!
Masaru moves in looking to clinch but Prime pushes him off.

Masaru is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Masaru tries to clinch up.

Masaru wants to clinch up but Prime keeps it at a distance.
Katsuro Masaru is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Prime feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Prime has hold of Masaru's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Masaru manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Prime looking to secure an arm triangle but Masaru defends it well.

Prime looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Prime has control of Masaru's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Masaru regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Prime forces the positional change into back control.

Prime is hanging on to Masaru's back as he tries to escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Prime is trying to stick to Masaru's back but Masaru is turning into Prime. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Prime's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Masaru.

Prime working for a triangle but Masaru defends it easily.

Masaru stands up and waves to Prime to follow him.

Prime looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Masaru is fending him off so far but Prime persists. Nope, Masaru circles away and we're back to standing.

Prime decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Masaru is defending against the submission attempts here by Prime.

Prime is looking for a kimura but Masaru is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Prime to get the leverage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Masaru gets full guard.
Masaru trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Masaru wants to sweep but no luck.
Masaru is trying to control the position but Prime postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Optimus Prime dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Masaru is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Prime takes an elbow to the forehead.

Masaru throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Prime blocks it with crossed arms.
Prime drops down looking for an ankle pick but Masaru pulls his leg out and moves away.
Prime fails with a takedown attempt.

Prime tries to keep at a distance but Masaru has taken the fight into the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Masaru tries to land a knee to the head but Prime blocks with his arms.

Masaru connects with a nasty looking knee right to Prime's face.
Masaru changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Prime fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Masaru wants to clinch up but Prime keeps it at a distance.

Masaru manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Prime manages to get himself to full guard.

Masaru is looking to work some ground and pound but Prime has wrist control.
Masaru cracks Prime with a solid left hand.
Masaru lands a couple of digs.
Masaru postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Masaru throwing strikes but missing.

Prime looking for a guillotine here but Masaru defends easily.

Prime has his foot on Masaru's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Masaru works his way back into a safe position though.

Masaru postures up in Prime's guard and throws a big left but Prime blocks it.

Masaru is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Prime has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Masaru is looking to defend but Prime has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Masaru! Prime pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Masaru taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Optimus Prime!
