Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Davidson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jack Johnson! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson moves in looking to clinch but Davidson pushes him off. Davidson misses the shot to the body. Horrible takedown by Davidson or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad. A low kick from Davidson misses and Johnson counters with a big head kick but Davidson shrugs it off. Johnson throws a head kick that misses. A head kick misses from Johnson. Johnson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Davidson throws a head kick that misses and Johnson counters with a flying knee. Nice. Johnson slips under a jab from Davidson. Davidson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Davidson lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Johnson down.
Johnson is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Johnson avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Davidson. Davidson controlling the action here. Johnson is looking to control Davidson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Johnson avoid being mounted?
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson won't allow Davidson to pass to mount. Davidson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Davidson not landing any meaningful shots this time. Davidson seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Johnson trying to control but Davidson postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Johnson takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Davidson closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. Davidson pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Davidson tries to close the distance and clinch but Johnson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Davidson thows a leg kick but Johnson checks it and Johnson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Davidson swats away the attempt to clinch by Johnson. Davidson's jab looks to have found its range, popping Johnson under the eye. Davidson thows a leg kick but Johnson checks it and Johnson counters with a head kick. Davidson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Johnson moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Johnson thows a body kick. Davidson tries to catch it but that hurt him. Davidson is breathing heavily. Davidson jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson throws a head kick that misses and Davidson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Johnson! Johnson is in a horrible position here. Davidson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Davidson postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Johnson looks a forlorn figure.
Johnson takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Johnson is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Davidson controlling the pace for now. Johnson gets back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Davidson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Davidson is figuring out what he wants to do next. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Davidson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Davidson eventually gives up the hold. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Davidson connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Peter Davidson will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Davidson takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Johnson throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Davidson counters with a two punch combo. Davidson tries to close the distance and clinch but Johnson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Davidson moves out of range easily. Davidson feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Johnson's calf. Davidson lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Johnson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Peter Davidson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Davidson misses with a combination

and Johnson counters with a head kick. That will keep Davidson thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Davidson drives through and clinches with Johnson against the cage.

Davidson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Davidson is taking a breather. Johnson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Johnson on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Davidson stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. A right-left combo lands from Johnson. Davidson misses with the combination.
Johnson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Johnson is looking to clinch but Davidson is avoiding it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A head kick by Johnson misses and Davidson counters with a series of strikes. Johnson will be more careful next time no doubt. Davidson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Johnson's guard. Davidson trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom. Peter Davidson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Johnson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Davidson. Davidson is stalling in the full guard. Davidson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Davidson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Johnson manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Davidson has Johnson in his guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Davidson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Davidson keeps moving and retains side control. Davidson stands up and beckons Johnson to his feet. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Davidson misses with a leg kick and Johnson counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Davidson lands a right hand that snaps the head of Johnson backwards. Johnson creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses. Johnson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Davidson avoids the elbow strike from Johnson, against the cage.
Davidson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Johnson prevents Davidson from getting back to his feet. Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Johnson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Davidson dives on top into guard. Davidson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Davidson has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davidson stands up and waves to Johnson to follow him. Davidson swings away with a leg kick that misses. An inside leg kick from Davidson misses. Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Davidson moves out of range easily. A decent looking cross lands there for Davidson. Johnson wants to clinch but Davidson slips to the side and Davidson makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Johnson tries to sprawl but Davidson drives through with a takedown into half guard. Johnson is in trouble now - Davidson has advanced to mount! Davidson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jack Johnson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Johnson is desperately trying to improve his position but Davidson has a good base and remains in mount. Peter Davidson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Davidson tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Johnson is bucking up trying to escape but Davidson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Davidson wants to control the pace but Johnson is squirming around nicely. Davidson is landing with some decent strikes but Johnson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Davidson looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

And that's the end of the fight! Peter Davidson showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Davidson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
