Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Melvin Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pete Ashworth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Williams's entrance music is D-Block ft. OJ Da Juiceman - Show Em . A fine choice. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Melvin Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Ashworth!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Steve Montenegro and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Williams!


It looks like Pete Ashworth has been cut.
Williams throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ashworth lands with a shot to the body.
Ashworth tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Williams swivels and escapes.
Ashworth wants to clinch.
Williams is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ashworth circles away from the clinch attempt

and Ashworth counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Williams is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ashworth is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ashworth is stalling in the full guard.

Williams manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Ashworth shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ashworth showed some decent athleticism there.

Ashworth is pressing down on Williams's thigh, looking to free his foot. Williams is holding on for now.

and Ashworth counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Williams wants to stand and escape but Ashworth is having none of it.

Williams pushes Ashworth off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Ashworth pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Williams throws a predictable looking body shot

and Ashworth counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Ashworth is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ashworth trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ashworth trying to control but Williams is working from the bottom.
Williams wants to stand and escape but Ashworth is having none of it.
Ashworth wants to pass the guard but Williams is keeping the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ashworth happy to just control the position for now.

Ashworth is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Williams knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ashworth creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Williams sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Williams trying to remain calm as Ashworth controls from the top position.
Ashworth throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Williams seems a little lost for a moment, as Ashworth dominates the positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ashworth doesn't manage to clinch there - Williams circles away.

Williams instigates a clinch.
Ashworth wants a takedown.
Ashworth is looking to control Williams's arms but Williams gets an underhook and turns him. Now Ashworth has his back to the cage.
Ashworth has had enough of the clinch but Williams keeps him there for the moment.
Ashworth goes for a takedown attempt but Williams pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

and Ashworth counters with a low kick, right behind Williams 's knee.
Ashworth on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Ashworth looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Melvin Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pete Ashworth.

Ashworth fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Williams sprawls well initially but Ashworth persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Ashworth is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Williams defends it well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Ashworth changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Williams tries to avoid it but Ashworth manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Williams to the ground. Williams escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ashworth decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Ashworth decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Williams scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Ashworth manages to mount him!

Ashworth is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Williams has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Williams trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Ashworth just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Williams manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pete Ashworth showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Williams stuffs the takedown attempt from Ashworth. Ashworth gets slowly back to his feet.
Ashworth looks to clinch
and Williams counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Ashworth is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Williams punishes Ashworth's body with a nice straight punch.

Williams closes the distance and clinches.
Williams lands a shoulder strike.
Ashworth has Williams pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Williams manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Williams is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Ashworth softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Ashworth tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Williams just stands there and leans against the cage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ashworth has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Ashworth closes the distance but Williams moves to the side
and Williams counters with a left and a right that stings Ashworth.
Ashworth fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ashworth doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Williams counters with a series of strikes. Ashworth will be more careful next time no doubt.
Ashworth keeps the fight on the outside.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Williams is looking to clinch but Ashworth is avoiding it.
Williams bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Williams scores with a decent looking hook.
Ashworth fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Williams Rushes Ashworth and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Ashworth is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Williams Piles on the pressure and Ashworth crumples to the floor! This one is all over!
