PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Slik Flow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Evo Merick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Merick has chosen Eminem - Syllables as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Slik Flow! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Evo Merick! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Merick gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Merick has his hands on Flow's head, controlling the position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Merick working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Flow doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Flow manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Flow wants to get up but he can't break Merick's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Flow throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Merick works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Merick tries to land a sweep but no joy. Merick managing to control the position. Merick is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Flow wants to stand but Merick has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Flow really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merick is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Merick trying to control the position here.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Evo Merick was stalling too much, according to the referee. Flow fails in his attempt to clinch. Flow is looking to clinch. Flow closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Merick quickly recovers to half guard. Flow slips a nice elbow through Merick's hands, connecting with Merick's forehead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Merick moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Flow trying to control the position from guard on top but Merick is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Merick is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Flow is breathing heavily. Flow tries to roll over but Merick keeps him under control. Flow tries to kick Merick off but Merick keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Merick lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Flow trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Flow wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back. Merick lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Merick.
Merick lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merick is working for the choke. It looks like he might have got it... has he...? Yes! Flow is tapping out! This one is all over!
