PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Fredaster Varosi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darwin Ang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Varosi is looking to clinch but Ang is avoiding it.
Ang looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Ang ducks under a wild hook from Varosi.

Ang shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ang was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Varosi is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ang thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Ang won't let Varosi get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Varosi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ang on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Varosi tries to buck Ang off but he can't manage it.

Varosi is bucking up trying to escape but Ang cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

You get the feeling that Varosi really doesn't like being in this position too much.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A nice elbow there by Ang.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Varosi moves in looking to clinch but Ang pushes him off.
Varosi throws a right hand that Ang ducks under and follows up with a left that Ang also avoids with ease.

Ang moves into range and clinches up with Varosi.
Varosi is trying to force a seperation but Ang has the dominant position.
Varosi connects with a knee to the head.
Varosi landing knees to the head.
A short uppercut from Ang.

Ang works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ang's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Ang is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Ang stands and throws Varosi's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ang decides to stand back up.

Ang changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Varosi looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Varosi prevents Ang from moving into mount.

Ang stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Fredaster Varosi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Varosi fails to land with a series of punches.
Varosi tries to land a front kick but Ang steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and Ang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Varosi's guard.

Darwin Ang showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Varosi dodges the punch combination from Ang.
Ang bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ang keeps the fight on the outside.
Varosi throws a sloppy head kick and Ang moves out of range easily.
Varosi moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Varosi pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

and Ang decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Varosi's guard.

Ang decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ang swats away the attempt to clinch by Varosi.

Varosi misses with a jab, cross combination.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Varosi throws a jab when Ang was well out of range.

Ang closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Varosi is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ang scores with a couple of nice shots.
Ang thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Varosi's head.

Ang decides to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Varosi lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Ang walks into a stiff left hand from Varosi.

Ang shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ang lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Varosi avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ang.
Varosi regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Ang.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ang accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Darwin Ang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Varosi is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Varosi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Darwin Ang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ang winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
