PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vladislav Tsvetkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksandr Vahrushev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladislav Tsvetkov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Vahrushev!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Vahrushev is defended easily by Tsvetkov.
Vahrushev misses the shot to the body.
A combination from Tsvetkov does no damage.
Tsvetkov doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Vahrushev counters with a left and a right that stings Tsvetkov.
Tsvetkov keeps the fight on the outside.
Vahrushev tries to close the distance and clinch but Tsvetkov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Tsvetkov could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Vahrushev takes the fight into the clinch.
Vahrushev is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Vahrushev wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Vahrushev tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Tsvetkov smiles and moves away.
Vahrushev gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Tsvetkov counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Tsvetkov.
Vladislav Tsvetkov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksandr Vahrushev.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vahrushev is looking to stand up but Tsvetkov isn't so interested in that idea.
Vahrushev throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Tsvetkov sitting in guard here, content to control.

Vahrushev working for a triangle but Tsvetkov defends it easily.
Vahrushev keeping moving, preventing Tsvetkov from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Vahrushev wants to stand but Tsvetkov is controlling the position.

Vahrushev is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Vahrushev looks gassed!
Tsvetkov looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Tsvetkov trying to stand up but can't free himself from Vahrushev's guard.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Tsvetkov postures up.
Vahrushev wants to stand but Tsvetkov is controlling the position.
Vahrushev trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Tsvetkov postures up.
Tsvetkov has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Tsvetkov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vahrushev manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tsvetkov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vahrushev is keeping the position for now.
Vahrushev is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tsvetkov is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vladislav Tsvetkov will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Tsvetkov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Tsvetkov grinds an elbow into Vahrushev's temple.
Tsvetkov has control of an arm but Vahrushev manages to advance to Tsvetkov's back!
Vahrushev is hanging on to Tsvetkov's back as he tries to escape.

Vahrushev tightening his grip on Tsvetkov, looking for the choke.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tsvetkov is really stuck here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tsvetkov is working hard here to advance position.
Vahrushev tries to get the hooks in deep but Tsvetkov pushed the leg off.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Vahrushev controlling the positon.
I really don't envy Tsvetkov right now.
Vahrushev is landing with strikes from the back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vahrushev trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Good control from Vahrushev.
Vahrushev has the hooks in. Tsvetkov is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Tsvetkov prevents Vahrushev from getting a body triangle.
Vahrushev is not going to allow Tsvetkov to sit and survive in this position.
Tsvetkov tries to escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vahrushev scores with punches to the body.
Tsvetkov looking very determined here, making life difficult for Vahrushev.
Vahrushev controls the action.

Vahrushev is cranking Tsvetkov's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Tsvetkov! He's tightened the choke and Tsvetkov is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Aleksandr Vahrushev!
