PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Big Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Golden Touch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Big Dog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Golden Touch!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Touch closes the distance and pushes Dog back into the cage.
Dog lands a damaging elbow.
Dog tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Touch avoids it.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Dog gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Dog tries a knee to the head but Touch blocks it.
Dog pushes off an throws an elbow but Touch leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Touch is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dog lands an elbow inside that Touch shrugs off.


It looks like Golden Touch has been cut.

Touch has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Dog uses from the top position.

Touch is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Dog is aware though and is defending well.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Touch holds on and takes a little breather.
Touch manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dog manages to get himself to full guard.
Dog really is a fat lump.
Dog being controlled here, momentarily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Touch advances to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Touch tries to pass to full mount but Dog defends it.
Touch working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Dog's thigh. Dog counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Touch gets to his feet. Dog looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Dog moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Touch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dog misses with a low kick as Touch jumps back.
Touch changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dog tries to avoid it but Touch manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dog to the ground. Dog escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A slapping leg kick lands for Dog.
Dog keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Touch takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Touch looks gassed!
Touch tries to clinch up but Dog circles away and keeps his distance.
Touch shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dog as he jumps to the side.
Big Dog has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Golden Touch.
Dog keeps Touch at a distance using the push kick.
Dog lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Horrible takedown by Touch or perhaps it was just good defense by Dog which made him look bad.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dog throws a body kick that misses.
Dog thumps Touch with a low kick.
Touch fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Dog thumps Touch with a low kick.
Touch avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Big Dog is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dog chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Dog.
A head kick misses from Dog.
Dog fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Touch has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Touch keeps the fight on the outside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Big Dog will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Golden Touch's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Touch chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Dog can pounce on him.
Dog tries to land a front kick but Touch steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Dog connects with an inside leg kick.
Dog tries to clinch but Touch is having none of it.
Dog scores with a leg kick.
Touch will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dog lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Dog throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Dog tries to close the distance and clinch up but Touch swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Touch is breathing heavily.

Dog pushes Touch up against the cage in a clinch.
Dog tries to land a knee to the head but Touch blocks with his arms.
Dog putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Touch in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Dog comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Dog is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Touch is defending well for now.

Dog misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Touch.

Touch's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Touch blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Touch manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Touch is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Touch has a closed guard, preventing Dog from standing up.
Dog might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Touch manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Touch blocks a head kick by Dog.
Dog throws a push kick but Touch slaps the foot to one side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Touch closes the distance looking to clinch
and Dog counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Touch is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Dog lands a nice leg kick that just misses Touch's sensitive parts.
Touch fails in his attempt to clinch.
Golden Touch is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Touch blocks a head kick by Dog.
Touch shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dog but Dog pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Dog throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dog lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Touch looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Dog!
Dog knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Touch on the ground.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Touch sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Let's hope that Touch has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Big Dog will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Golden Touch's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Touch will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Dog fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Touch has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Touch takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

and Touch counters with a shoot takedown. Dog fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dog keeping moving, preventing Touch from controlling successfully.
Touch has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Dog is proving hard to escape from.
Touch wants to control from the top but Dog keeps moving.
Big Dog is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Dog utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Touch wants to control from the top but Dog keeps moving.

Golden Touch has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Dog moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Touch takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Dog misses with a body kick.
Touch's corner calls for a 1-2. Touch obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Touch shoots in but Dog avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Big Dog has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Golden Touch.
A thudding body kick lands there by Dog!
Dog lands with a nice body kick.
Dog throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Dog.
A nice leg kick lands there from Dog.
Dog is looking to land body kicks.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Touch crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Dog - the referee stops the clock and Touch gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Dog. Touch manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Dog throws a sloppy head kick and Touch moves out of range easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Touch takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Touch on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Dog. Dog obviously looking to wear him down.
Dog pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A low kick from Touch is predictable there
and Dog counters with an outside leg kick.

Dog closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Touch wants a takedown but no success here.
Dog using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Golden Touch has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Touch has Dog pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Dog manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Dog is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Touch tries to pull guard but Dog won't allow it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Big Dog.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dog, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
