PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Boss Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Romano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romano has chosen Almost Easy -- Avenged Sevenfold as his entrance music. Matt Romano is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boss Castro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Matt Romano!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Bruno Lombardi and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Romano shoots in for a takedown but Castro shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Romano moves forwards but Castro connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Castro throws a hook but Romano avoids it easily.

Romano throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Castro tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Romano is in Castro's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Romano slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Romano swings around for an armbar but Castro sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Romano's guard.
Romano is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Romano manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Castro manages to get himself to full guard.

Castro is trying to control Romano's posture but Romano avoids it.

Romano thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Castro is not content to let Romano control the position.

Romano throws an elbow but Castro slips to the side and avoids it well.
Castro takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Romano throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Romano tried to score with a low kick but Castro checks it.

Romano throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Castro's waist but Castro gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Romano off to one side.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Castro is trying to maintain a safe position but Romano gets an underhook and turns Castro into the cage.
Castro can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


The fighters circling - Romano throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Romano walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Romano, as that shot connected.
Romano fails with the takedown.
Romano tries to score a power double leg takedown but Castro sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Romano somewhat.
Castro lands a leg kick that knocks Romano off balance momentarily.
Romano takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Romano wants to pass the guard but Castro is defending well.

Romano is just content to waste time from the top position. Castro takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Romano has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Romano throws and elbow that misses. Castro uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Romano's guard. Nice move by Castro!

Castro gets to his feet. Romano looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

I think Castro has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
