PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tyson Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Martins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Belfort comes to the cage accompanied by The Architect. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Tyson Belfort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Will Martins!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martins is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Martins shoots in for a double leg but Belfort sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Belfort lands with a good body shot.

Martins shoots in and bounces Belfort off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Martins preventing the sweep.
Martins loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Belfort is trying to control the position but Martins postures up.
Martins postures up in Belfort's guard and throws a big left but Belfort blocks it.
Martins throws a big right hand that misses.
Martins advances to half guard.
Martins seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Belfort wants to control but Martins is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Belfort slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Belfort wants to sweep but no luck.
Belfort is working hard here to advance position.
Belfort manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Martins manages to get himself to full guard.

Martins keeping moving, preventing Belfort from controlling successfully.
Belfort stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martins swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Belfort wants to control from the top but Martins keeps moving.
Martins really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Belfort. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Martins is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

We're going to have a standup here because Tyson Belfort wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Martins doesn't manage to clinch there - Belfort circles away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Belfort misses with a looping left.
Belfort smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Martins changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Belfort tries to avoid it but Martins manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Belfort to the ground. Belfort escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Martins fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Tyson Belfort has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will Martins.

Martins gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Belfort to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Belfort stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Martins swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martins can't keep his opponent in guard - Belfort advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Belfort is trying to control the action in half guard but Martins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Martins trying to control but Belfort postures up.
Belfort uses his free foot to push down on Martins's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Martins.
Martins is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Belfort moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Martins has worked his arm free - good work by Martins!
Belfort tries to move to mount but Martins blocks the move with his legs.

Martins manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Belfort working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Martins's thigh. Martins counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Belfort slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Belfort content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Belfort advances to full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Belfort's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Martins.
Martins leaves Belfort with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Belfort feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Belfort moves into full mount! Martins won't be happy about that!
Martins is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Martins is squirming around, avoiding Belfort's attempts to control the action.

Martins is looking to improve his position but Belfort isn't that keen on the idea.

Belfort wants to finish this one by submission but Martins is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Belfort.

Belfort takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.

Martins is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Belfort gets his way!

Belfort really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Martins.

Belfort is persistently looking for the submission but Martins is defending it well.
Martins tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Belfort lands a big shot there that rocks Martins but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Belfort moves to back control.

Belfort is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Martins defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Belfort is trying to stick to Martins's back but Martins is turning into Belfort. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Belfort's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Martins.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Martins won't allow Belfort to sweep him here.
Martins throws and elbow that misses. Belfort uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Martins's guard. Nice move by Belfort!
Belfort tries to free his leg and advance position but Martins is retaining full guard.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Martins misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Martins takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Martins takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Belfort shoots in but Martins avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Martins closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Martins is controlling an arm, preventing Belfort from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Martins is trying desperately to improve position.

Belfort goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Martins is on top in guard.

Well Belfort has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
