PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Philip Jarden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcss Paulus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jarden comes to the cage accompanied by Born To Be Wild. The key to victory for Philip Jarden has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Philip Jarden!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marcss Paulus!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jarden rushes Paulus and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Jarden tries to pull guard but Paulus won't allow it.

Jarden ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jarden no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Jarden will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jarden is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Paulus gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Paulus closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jarden to the mat! Jarden manages to get full guard.

Paulus lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Jarden is wriggling around but Paulus manages to pass to half guard.

Paulus seems to be looking for submissions.
Paulus seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Jarden looks like he's trying to stand up.

Paulus is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Paulus wants to pass the guard but Jarden is defending well.
Paulus throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Jarden pushes Paulus off and gets back to his feet.
Jarden is breathing heavily.
Jarden throws a right and a left that both miss.

Paulus fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jarden sprawls well initially but Paulus persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jarden is looking to improve his position.

Jarden is defending against the submission attempts here by Paulus.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Paulus is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Paulus is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Paulus stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Jarden to get to his feet.

Paulus closes the distance and clinches up with Jarden, looking for a takedown. Paulus pushes Jarden against the cage but Jarden circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Paulus shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jarden but Jarden pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Paulus closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Paulus lands in his opponent's guard.

Paulus lands a couple of digs.

Paulus stands up and waves to Jarden to follow him.
Jarden slaps away a takedown attempt from Paulus, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Philip Jarden has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marcss Paulus.

Jarden slips a straight right by Paulus.
Paulus should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Paulus thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Jarden wants to get back to his feet.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Paulus is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jarden has escaped the position, nice work there.
Jarden sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcss Paulus dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jarden slaps away a takedown attempt from Paulus, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Paulus bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jarden's head backwards.
Paulus has a takedown stuffed.

Paulus shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Paulus showed some decent athleticism there.

Paulus is working for a kimura but Jarden is defending it quite comfortably.

Paulus looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Paulus wants to stand up but Jarden has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Jarden looks like he's trying to stand up.

Paulus is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jarden defends it well.

Paulus is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jarden is just riding it out for now. Paulus eventually gives up the hold.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Paulus is looking for a kimura but Jarden is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Paulus to get the leverage.

Paulus seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Jarden is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
