PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Stark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stark comes to the cage accompanied by Iron Man-Black Sabbath. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Stark!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Edgar!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stark throws a looping overhand right but Edgar ducks down to avoid it.
Stark ducks under a wild hook from Edgar.
Horrible takedown by Edgar or perhaps it was just good defense by Stark which made him look bad.
Stark throws a jab but it's blocked by Edgar.
Edgar takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Edgar scores with a hook.
Stark fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Edgar manages to avoid it.
Stark misses with a body shot.
Edgar keeps the fight on the outside.
Edgar misses with a jab, cross combination.
Stark swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stark misses with a looping left.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Edgar.
Edgar is looking to take a break and control but Stark is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Edgar tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stark regains half guard.

Stark looking for submissions off his back.
Stark is trying to control but can't.
Edgar thows a huge punch but Stark dodges it nicely.
Stark wants to improve his position but Edgar is controlling well.

Stark looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Stark moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Edgar accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Edgar postures up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Stark working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Edgar doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Edgar manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Edgar makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Edgar won't allow Stark to sweep him here.

Stark looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Edgar has picked Stark up and slammed him! Stark can't keep hold of the triangle and Edgar manages to pass to side control!
Stark is looking for a sweep.
Edgar works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Edgar tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Edgar has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Edgar is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Stark knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Stark tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Edgar wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Edgar tries for a kimura but Stark is defending well.
Stark is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Edgar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Stark with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Stark gets back to full guard.
Stark is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Edgar wants to pass the guard but Stark is keeping the position.

Edgar thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Edgar looks gassed!

Stark manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Stark landing punches.
Stark throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Edgar is trying to stand up.

Stark working for a submission but Edgar is keeping him at bay.

Stark is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Edgar to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Edgar shrugs it off.
Edgar is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Stark will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Stark uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Edgar.
Edgar keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Edgar closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Stark lands a lovely overhand right.
Edgar looks for a takedown but Stark sprawls well.
Edgar on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Stark doesn't manage to clinch there - Edgar circles away.
Stark scores with the left hand. Edgar knows he should have avoided that one.
Edgar throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Stark misses with a series of wild punches.
A shot to the liver by Stark. Beautiful body shot.
Stark ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Edgar is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Stark lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Stark misses the shot to the body.
Edgar is trying hard to land a takedown here. Stark sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Stark lands a nice shot to the body.
Stark scores with a shot to the body.
Edgar takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Stark connects with a body shot that sends Edgar's belly button to the back.
Stark is looking to clinch.
Edgar takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Stark bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Edgar's head backwards.
Edgar fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Stark avoids it really well and circles away.
Anthony Stark has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Edgar.
Stark swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Stark throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Stark clinches with his opponent.

Edgar breaks from the clinch.
Stark moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Stark is looking to wear down Edgar with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Stark pushes Edgar back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Stark lands with a right to the head.

Stark lands a left hand.
Stark gets through Edgar's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Stark lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Edgar is trying to break the clinch but Stark has him pressed against the cage.
Stark lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Stark creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Edgar wants to break free but Stark has control.
Stark cracks Edgar with a nice body shot.
Stark scores with a shoulder strike.
Stark lands a body punch.
Stark working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Stark digs a right hand underneath Edgar's ribcage. Edgar let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Stark lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Edgar backwards.
Stark lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Stark lands a nice uppercut.
Stark pushes Edgar back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
A left hand lands to the body for Stark.
Stark scores with an uppercut up the middle.
A nice right hand lands inside from Stark.
Stark cracks Edgar with a nice body shot.

Stark gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Stark will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Stark works his way into full mount!

Stark looking to secure an arm triangle but Edgar defends it well.
Edgar really wants to buck Stark off and get back to his feet.

Stark is trying to take his opponent's back.
Edgar is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Stark trying to control but Edgar is having none of it.

Edgar defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Stark.
Edgar is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Stark sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Stark jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Edgar manages to avoid the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Edgar shoots in but Stark avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stark takes a swing at Edgar's ribcage but misses.

Edgar pushes Stark away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Stark gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Stark wants to control but Edgar is keeping him busy.
Stark passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Edgar!

Stark unloads with some shots from mount but Edgar bucks and avoids them well.

Edgar is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Edgar has given up his back here. Will Stark look for the submission or keep pounding away?

Stark tightening his grip on Edgar, looking for the choke.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Edgar controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Edgar is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Stark gets his way!
Stark really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Edgar.

Stark wants to control but Edgar is keeping busy.

Stark is working for a rear naked choke. Edgar is not defending it well and Stark has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Edgar refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Edgar's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Anthony Stark!
