PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bitea Catalin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edison Gbor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bitea Catalin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Edison Gbor!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Jorge Garcia and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Catalin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Catalin closes the distance and clinches.

Catalin gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Gbor punching from the bottom.
Catalin controlling the pace.
Gbor trying to get back to full guard but Catalin takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Catalin misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gbor is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Catalin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gbor sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Catalin passes the guard and advances to mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gbor manages to control the position for a moment.

Catalin is working for a guillotine from mount but Gbor frees his head quite easily.
Catalin controlling from the full mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Catalin avoids the attempt from Gbor to control.
Gbor can't escape the position.
A nice elbow there by Catalin.
Catalin controlling the pace for now.

Gbor is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Catalin wants to control the pace but Gbor is squirming around nicely.
Gbor is looking to improve his position but Catalin isn't that keen on the idea.

Catalin working for a submission but Gbor is keeping him at bay.
Catalin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gbor is looking to escape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Catalin cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Catalin prevents Gbor from getting the reversal.
Catalin can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Gbor is looking to escape.
Catalin breaks from Gbor's wrist control and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bitea Catalin dominated that round.
That's time! Catalin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Catalin is defended easily by Gbor.
Gbor moves out of range as Catalin strikes.
Gbor tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Catalin counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Gbor doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Catalin counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gbor's guard now.

Catalin trying to control the position from guard on top but Gbor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Catalin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Gbor will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Catalin looking to sit in guard and control but Gbor gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Catalin is trying to keep Gbor in close.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gbor accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gbor stands and throws Catalin's legs to the side, diving into side control.
You can see the frustration on Catalin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Catalin tries to buck Gbor off but Gbor is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gbor wants to control but Catalin is keeping him busy.
Gbor working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Gbor decides to stand back up. Gbor steps back and let's Catalin get back to his feet.
Catalin fails with the takedown
and Gbor counters with a slapping leg kick.
Gbor tries to clinch there but Catalin circles away.

Gbor looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Catalin is trying to control the position but Gbor postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gbor stands up over Catalin, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Gbor decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Catalin, up you get!

Gbor bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bitea Catalin overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gbor working away.
Catalin is looking to regain half guard here but Gbor keeps moving and retains side control.
Gbor lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Catalin down.
Catalin can't do much from the bottom here.
Catalin prevents Gbor from improving position.

Catalin manages to get back to half guard.
Gbor not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Gbor sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Catalin defending well though.
Gbor is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Catalin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Catalin is trying to get back to full guard.
Catalin keeping control of the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Edison Gbor showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Catalin stuffs the takedown attempt from Gbor. Gbor gets slowly back to his feet.

Catalin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Gbor quickly recovers to half guard.

Gbor makes his way to full guard, as Catalin worked for a kimura.
Catalin tries to free his leg and advance position but Gbor is retaining full guard.

Catalin stands and steps away. Gbor gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Gbor wants to clinch but Catalin slips to the side

and Catalin counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gbor makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gbor.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Catalin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Catalin throwing strikes but missing.
Catalin trying to control the position from guard on top but Gbor is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gbor escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Catalin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Gbor is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Catalin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gbor scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Gbor wants to free his trapped foot but Catalin is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Gbor is controlling the pace.
Gbor wants to lay and pray for a moment but Catalin keeps working.
Catalin is looking for a sweep. Gbor is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bitea Catalin showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Catalin has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
