PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zak Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chase Fletcher (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Simmons comes to the cage accompanied by Hip Hop. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zak Simmons!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chase Fletcher!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Simmons.

Simmons closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Simmons lands in his opponent's guard.
Fletcher is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Simmons stops Fletcher from standing up.

Fletcher is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Fletcher's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Simmons shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fletcher sprawls well. Fletcher wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Simmons gets slowly back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fletcher wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fletcher is in all sorts of trouble here.
Fletcher tries to lock up and control but Simmons gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Simmons seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Simmons knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fletcher on the ground.

Simmons throws and elbow that misses. Fletcher uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Simmons's guard. Nice move by Fletcher!

Fletcher seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Simmons does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Fletcher takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chase Fletcher wasn't active enough on the ground.
Simmons looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zak Simmons. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Donk. Fletcher catches Simmons right on the button with a cross.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fletcher wants to clinch up but Simmons keeps it at a distance.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fletcher enables Simmons to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fletcher manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Simmons with a flurry of punches that miss.

Fletcher kicks Simmons off and gets to his feet.
Simmons changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fletcher tries to avoid it but Simmons manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fletcher to the ground. Fletcher escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
No luck for Simmons with that takedown attempt.

Fletcher clinches.
Simmons prevents a takedown attempt there.

Fletcher's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Simmons throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Fletcher gets caught flat footed, as Simmons shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fletcher is on top in guard.

Simmons is looking to sweep but instead, Fletcher has passed into half guard.
Zak Simmons overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fletcher stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Fletcher takes the fight into the clinch.

Simmons gets underhooks to prevent Fletcher's takedown attempt.

Fletcher breaks the clinch.
Simmons misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Fletcher lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Simmons misses with a wild combination.
Simmons looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Fletcher is fending him off so far but Simmons persists. Nope, Fletcher circles away and we're back to standing.
Simmons swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Fletcher stops Simmons from getting back to his feet.
Fletcher uses his free foot to push down on Simmons's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Simmons.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee warns Simmons that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Fletcher lands with some strikes.
Fletcher looking to control but Simmons is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Chase Fletcher showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Fletcher comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Simmons avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Simmons stuffs the takedown attempt from Fletcher. Fletcher gets slowly back to his feet.

and Fletcher counters with a head kick.
Fletcher throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Fletcher in particular looking to stall.

Fletcher thows a huge punch but Simmons dodges it nicely.
Fletcher is keen to just control but Simmons is a slippery customer.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Simmons on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Simmons tries to get out of the position.
Fletcher seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Chase Fletcher was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Simmons tries to kick Fletcher off in order to stand up. Fletcher Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Simmons is trying desperately to improve position.

Chase Fletcher comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fletcher has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
