Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kevin Payne! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, JJ Walker! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Walker throws a series of punches but Payne avoids them all with ease. Payne looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! A combination from Walker does no damage. Walker throws a right and a left that Payne avoids nicely. Walker throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Payne was covering up waiting for the punch and Walker finishes the takedown easily into guard. Walker trying to control but Payne is working from the bottom. Walker might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Payne kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Walker is looking to stand up but Payne won't let him. Payne looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Walker wants to get up but he can't break Payne's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Walker postures up in Payne's guard and throws a big left but Payne blocks it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Payne has a closed guard, preventing Walker from standing up. Walker gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Payne bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Payne moves out of range of the strikes. Walker misses with a straight left. Walker throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Payne sees it coming and avoids it easily. Payne avoids a punch combination nicely.
Walker misses with a jab, cross combination.
Walker throws a right and a left that Payne avoids nicely. JJ Walker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Payne stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Payne wants it to stay on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Some wild striking there from Walker.
The fighters circling - Walker throws out the jab but it was never going to land. A telegraphed right hand from Walker misses the target. Walker misses with a kick to the body.
Walker feints a jab promting Payne to slip. Walker then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Payne slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. A big left from Walker misses. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Payne is defended easily by Walker. Walker dives in and grabs Payne's left leg, looking for a takedown. Payne pushes down on Walker's head and hops out. Walker fails to land with a series of punches.
Walker throws a jab when Payne was well out of range.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Payne fails with a takedown attempt. Payne is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Walker. Payne shoots in for a takedown but Walker shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Payne. That's going to take a lot out of him. Walker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Payne moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Walker misses with a series of wild punches.
Payne fails to land the takedown. No luck for Payne with that takedown attempt. Walker misses with a few strikes there.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Walker misses with a double jab.
Walker fails with an attempt to clinch.
Walker throws a jab when Payne was well out of range. Walker displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Payne. Payne stalks Walker and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Walker's face. Walker staggers backwards, shaken. Walker thows a body shot but no joy. Walker throws a left and a right that both miss
and Payne counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Walker has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Payne lands with a right to the head. Walker is looking to break free of the clinch but Payne has double underhooks. Walker decides to pull guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Walker wants to stand and escape but Payne is having none of it. Walker keeping moving, preventing Payne from controlling successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
JJ Walker dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Walker is looking to break free of the clinch but Payne has double underhooks. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Payne creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Walker wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Payne has him pressed against the cage. Walker breaks from the clinch.

and Payne counters by clinching up. Walker is trying to break the clinch but Payne has him pressed against the cage. Payne softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Still in the clinch, Walker scores with a nice short uppercut. Walker is looking to break free of the clinch but Payne has double underhooks. Walker wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Walker is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Payne stops a takedown attempt from Walker.
Payne drags the fight down to the ground.
Walker wants to stand but Payne has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Walker thows a big elbow that misses. Walker wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Payne's closed guard. He's half up but Payne has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Payne pivots and extends the arm, Walker falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Payne! Well done that man!
