Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rousimar Palhares! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jens Kidman! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Bruno Lombardi and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kidman shoots in looking for a takedown. Palhares tries to sprawl out of it but Kidman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Palhares manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Palhares misses with a jab, cross combination.
Palhares shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Palhares looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Palhares is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kidman doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Palhares. Palhares wants to work for an arm triangle but Kidman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Palhares wants to pass the guard but Kidman is defending well. Kidman wants to get back to full guard. Palhares is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kidman sees it coming and defends easily. Palhares seems to be looking for submissions.
Kidman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Palhares. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Palhares is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Kidman to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Palhares drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kidman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Palhares has Kidman in his guard. Palhares lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kidman! Palhares wants to control the pace but Kidman is squirming around nicely. Palhares has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Kidman is forced to tap!
