The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soares shoots in for a takedown but Barreto shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Barreto keeps Soares at a distance using the push kick.
Barreto misses with a head kick.
Barreto pushes Soares up against the cage in a clinch.
Soares has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Barreto is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Barreto throws a lazy right hand but Soares sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Soares is defended easily by Barreto.

Soares shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Barreto sprawls well. Barreto wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Soares gets slowly back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soares dives in and grabs Barreto's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barreto pushes down on Soares's head and hops out.

Matheus Barreto is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Soares throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barreto's waist but Barreto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Soares off to one side.
Soares shoots in looking for a takedown. Barreto tries to sprawl out of it but Soares keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Barreto manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Barreto is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Soares.

Soares has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Soares thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Barreto wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Soares manages to pass to side control.
